Company History
1972 - PLM International ("PLM") is founded as a Lessor and manager of railcar investments. From 1972 through 1996 it raises over $1.7 billion of equity for investment in railcars, aircraft, marine containers, shipping vessels, and refrigerated trailers.
1990 - PLM International branches out into the rental business and creates PLM Rental, Inc. PLM Rental opens 3 trailer rental and leasing yards.
1992 - PLM Rental acquires Resource Trailer Leasing (RTL) and merges both companies' locations to create 10 PLM Rental locations located primarily within the eastern and central USA. PLM Rental manages and leases all varieties of trailer types; including dry vans, flat beds, and refrigerated trailers.
1996 - PLM Rental, Inc transforms into PLM Trailer Leasing and focuses on the Cold Supply Chain, refrigerated distribution, and refrigerated trailers. PLM Trailer Leasing announces new shorter term lease programs focusing on equipment turn over and short life cycles specializing in flexibility and custom lease contracts.
1997 - PLM Trailer Leasing creates the first custom spec food service trailers designated for the short term lease and rental business. PLM Trailer Leasing is the first lessor of refrigerated trailers to place new, specialty built refrigerated trailers in a rental application.
1998/99 - During this period, PLM dedicates resources to a growth program that would include the opening of 9 new territories and branch locations expanding the service base to the West Coast, the Rocky Mountains, and the Pacific Northwest.
2000 - PLM International sells the trailer group (PLM Trailer Leasing) to Marubeni America Corporation (MAC). Marubeni America Corporation blends the PLM model into their current marine container division, Carlisle Leasing International (CLI) that specializes in refrigerated marine containers and international cold chain logistics. PLM opens three additional branches and creates a new smaller branch concept, the Satellite Branch to facilitate growth with important national and strategic customers. The PLM branch foot-print grows to a total of 25 locations with an additional 6 Satellite locations.
2001 - PLM Trailer Leasing announces new additional lease products that will reshape the refrigerated leasing industry; the Mirror Lease (term lease contract that mirrors transportation contracts) and the School Lunch Program (a lease that enables specialized contracts to fulfill annual, reoccurring commitments).
2003 - PLM creates the trailer spec program to enable customers to custom spec refrigeration equipment on line.
2005 - Marubeni America Corporation sells the CLI division to allow expanded growth in the domestic Cold supply Chain industry. PLM Trailer Leasing announces the appointment of a new President, Rick Adams, and moves into the new headquarters location in Montvale, NJ.
2006/07 - PLM begins expanding the services offered within the Cold supply chain to include:
Mobile Refrigeration Repair
Mobile Trailer Repair
