Janet Halfmann's "Star of the Sea" Wins Wisconsin Writers Children's Literature Award
Janet Halfmann has won the Wisconsin Writers Children’s Literature Award for her picture book, “Star of the Sea: A Day in the Life of a Starfish.” The Council for Wisconsin Writers announced the award March 22. Halfmann was inspired to write “Star of the Sea” because of her long-time fascination with sea stars. The book's illustrations are by Joan Paley and the publisher is Henry Holt/Christy Ottaviano. - March 25, 2012
"Fur and Feathers" Wins Teachers' Choice Award
"Fur and Feathers," written by Janet Halfmann and illustrated by Laurie Allen Klein, has been awarded the 2012 Teachers’ Choice Award for Picture Books. Sylvan Dell Publishing is the publisher. Teachers’ Choice Awards have been a part of "Learning Magazine" since 1994. It is the only awards program judged exclusively by teachers. This year, only ten children’s books received the distinction. "Fur and Feathers" weaves a creative, imaginative tale of caring, friendship, and animal coverings. - October 27, 2011
