Tigerlily Foundation Founder, Maimah Karmo, Young Survivor of Breast Cancer Given "Heart of Courage Award" for Advocacy Efforts
Reston, VA, September 02, 2008 --(PR.com)-- Tigerlily Foundation (Tigerlily)’s founder was the honor of the Courage Award by the Liberian Image Awards (LIA) on August 30, 2008.
Held at Bethesda Theatre, located at 7719 Wisconsin Avenue, Bethesda, MD, the theme of the event was "Embrace & Inspire Creativity in the Liberian Community to uplift its Global and Positive Image." With a mission to “honor the vision of upholding, uplifting and inspiring the positive images of Liberia in the Diaspora and beyond”, the organization was “proud to honor the innovative achievements and improvement of our people, their modernization, entrepreneurship, ideas, talents and business developments in the as contributors to the Liberian community as well as the world”.
Ms. Karmo spoke about the importance of using one's voice to help others, and encouraged others to use their challenges as gifts. She credited her 5-year old daughter, Noelle, for being her inspiration, as well as her family and friends for their support and constant encouragement of her, in her mission to spread awareness globally.
Tigerlily Foundation’s Founder, Maimah Karmo received the Heart of Courage Award, in recognition of her work as a global breast cancer advocate and activist. She is proud to be a survivor of breast cancer and is dedicated to educating, empowering, advocating for and supporting young women affected by breast cancer around the world.
Tigerlily’s programs provide chemotherapy buddy support, group meetings for survivors, raise funds for people in need of financial aid, offer support services to women undergoing treatment and is dedicated to providing breast cancer education to women around the world.
