Human Foresight Firm Changeist Launches Emergence Report Pointing to Growth of Fitness Technology Ecosystems

New ecosystems of consumer health and fitness technology are emerging as advances are made in wireless technology, media, apparel and materials science, according to a new report. The result will be a more connected and interactive fitness experience in the near future.

San Mateo, CA, November 08, 2008 --(PR.com)-- The consumer fitness/active wellness market has experienced a wave of digitization in the past five years, the logical evolution of which is the rise of what are being called “fitness ecosystems,” according to a new Emergence Report by Changeist, a Human Foresight consultancy that focuses on the near-future convergence of consumer behavior and new technologies.

According to the Report, not only can consumers measure and track many fitness activities via dedicated tools, devices and Web sites, integration among these components has accelerated recently.

As a result, companies from fields as diverse as sports apparel, video games, mobile phones, gym equipment and medical technology will find themselves both cooperating and competing to shape and control these ecosystems. They will have to learn how to interconnect their products and services to suit the changing active lifestyles of a digitally minded generation that considers technology another tool to improve active wellness and leisure activities.

“While digital technology within the fitness industry has been evolving, focusing on isolated, single product-centered islands, big players in consumer electronics and sports equipment have identified this industry as a major growth area for the next decade,” said report author, futurist and principal of Changeist, Scott Smith. “Their bets are placed on growing interests from not only tech-savvy boomers, but also tech-centric Generation Y and an emerging youth fitness segment for which play, sports and technology are tightly intertwined.”

The 13-page Emergence Report identifies a dozen driving forces and trends pushing the development of fitness ecosystems, highlights important indicators of this evolution, keys on iconic products that are setting standards for innovation and forecasts possible directions for this emerging market space. It is the first in a series of quarterly briefs focusing on emerging opportunities where technology and consumer lifestyles intersect.

“These new reports present a provocative starting point for deeper exploration into new product and service innovations, providing fuel for ideation and futures exploration,” said Smith. “The goal is to give organizations a view into the patterns we see taking shape, what they mean, and how they may evolve, and do so in a clean, visual fashion that feeds both insights groups and design teams.”
