Matcha Source Launches Novelty Green Tea Beverage for American Market
Los Angeles, CA, January 29, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Matcha Source, an online retailer that specializes in making matcha tea produced in Japan accessible to American consumers, has launched a new product line of specialty premium matcha teas.

Matcha powdered green tea is a sugar-free source of powerful antioxidants, including the renown EGCg. One cup of matcha tea is the nutritional equivalent of ten cups of brewed green tea because with matcha you ingest the whole leaf, not just the steep.

“Matcha is a niche product from Japan, so it can be hard for American consumers to know how to buy matcha,” said Alissa White, who founded Matcha Source in 2006. “Matcha Source’s new product line solves the problem by providing accessible information in English, geared to the American matcha drinking community.”

Traditionally used in the Japanese tea ceremony, matcha is premium green tea powder produced by hand in Japan. “Today, we continue to see matcha drunk in the traditional style using a bamboo whisk and matcha tea bowl, but we also see many new styles of drinking matcha, and even using it in recipes.”

Matcha Source features three grades of matcha tea in its new product line. The highest grade, Kama Matcha, “is ideal for making matcha to drink as tea,” said White. “Chlorophyll and amino acids give matcha its unique rich taste, an initial vegetal, astringent taste, followed by a lingering sweetness. Kama Matcha has a full-bodied, complex taste.”

Like Kama Matcha, the next grade, Morning Matcha, is suitable for making as tea. Its taste is slightly lighter and sweeter, “perfect for those new to matcha,” said White. The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture, which maintains some of the strictest standards in the industry, has certified Morning Matcha organic under the Japanese Agricultural Standards (JAS).

Matcha Source developed an ingredient grade matcha, Gotcha Matcha, as an economic alternative for consumers who like blended drinks and baking. “The taste of matcha complements the taste of other ingredients,” said White, who recommends adding Gotcha Matcha to lattes and smoothies, and using it as an ingredient in baking desserts.

Along with the new product line, Matcha Source’s website, www.matchasource.com, offers detailed product information, how-to guides, and recipes ranging from traditional tea to matcha ice cream. What is White’s favorite? “Tea whisked in a bowl and shared with a friend.”

Matcha Source is an online retailer that makes premium matcha tea from Japan easily accessible to American consumers. Its website, www.matchasource.com, offers information on the history and production of matcha and recipes for enjoying matcha.
