Growing up in Quebec, under the guidance of his Father Sigong Tony Toy, Sifu began his training and, after 20 years and 35,000 hours of practice, he was named Sifu (Master) in 1990. Accolades and acclaim continued to follow, including his induction into the World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame in 2006; named International Instructor of the Year in 2006, and this years honor -- his recognition as Master of the Year by the World Martial Arts Black Belt Hall of Fame.
Sifu Toy is also a Certified National Trainer and part of the International Elite Team. Since 1988, he has opened 16 international Kung Fu schools and owns and manages the Jocelyn Toy’s Chinese Martial Arts School in Quebec City. His production studio, Studio Cite’, a movie studio and sound stage in Quebec City, has trained a number of film stars while working with numerous film and production companies, both in the USA and Canada. His production credits include the animated television show, “Kung Fu, dans la plus pure tradition” as well as “Tao Secret de Chine”. In 1990 Sifu Toy released his first book, “Le Kung Fu, un art, une philosophie et unemaniere de vivre” (translated to mean “Kung Fu, an Art, a Philosophy and a Way of Life”), followed by “Les formes de Hung Gar.”
In 1996, Sifu began a relationship with the Olympics, which continues to this day. From 1996 to 1999, he coached Patrick Bouchard, an Olympic Canadian Team member in speed skating. Sifu, along with four other select individuals from around the globe, were brought to Beijing to chair and choreograph the opening ceremonies for the 2008 Olympics. Sifu was specifically asked to participate because of his accomplishments as both a Kung Fu Master and Olympic Trainer.
Last year Sifu Toy relocated to the United States to begin a national tour of seminars, demonstrations and retreats. Spanning the map, his event schedule includes one-day seminars on “How to Get Your Chi On,” “Golfing with Chi,” and “The 5 Elements of a Perfect 8 -- The Power of Chi;” a three-day meditative and contemplative retreat to be held in the Mohave Desert in California.
In 2008 Sifu introduced the DVD “Armed and Fashioned,” a unique way of training through self-defense and Kung Fu. Created for anyone who wants to feel empowered, Sifu shows viewers how to use heels, shoes, belts, watches, rings and other items of clothing for self-defense. The techniques are mastered through Kung Fu principles, awareness and practice.
