Tucson Fitness Trainer and Personal Chef Team Up to Help Clients Cook Their Way Thin
Tucson, AZ, May 17, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Personal Trainer Ron Holland has seen his share of weight loss successes and failures over the years. With the goal of helping his clients minimize frustrating failures, Holland has developed a program to re-hab his clients’ bad eating habits with what he calls a “Kitchen Intervention.”
The program, led by Master Trainer Ron Holland and Tucson Chef Dina Delaney, aims to ease the fear and anxiety of healthy cooking by teaching simple, healthy meal ideas, and educating participants on how to make simple changes in the kitchen, which could mean big success on the scale.
Ron Holland, Owner of SWAT Fitness in Tucson, first developed the program nearly ten years ago, out of frustration with weight loss clients who would tell him “I don’t have time to cook” as an excuse for their unhealthy eating habits. “My clients are often busy professionals, who spend more time focusing on work or family than on themselves,” he says. “But despite my lectures about What to do, it wasn’t until I showed them How to do it that they began to believe it.”
Holland realized that in addition to not making time to cook healthy meals, many of his clients experienced stress and anxiety when it came to planning out meals. And even more fear when it came to grocery shopping or cooking for themselves and their families.
Holland, a Master Personal Trainer with over 15 years of experience, began to wonder how he could convince his clients that the kitchen does not have to be a scary place, and that cooking does not have to be intimidating. He was convinced that if they could just follow him for one day – and learn what and how to prepare health-conscious meals and what to shop for - that they would realize that not only can cooking be easy, but it can actually be a fun and pleasant experience. He says with a laugh, “They were “hungry” for fast, convenient meal options that could satisfy their families, as well as their fitness trainer.”
So on an a Saturday morning in 1998, Holland got his clients together, and hauled a Weber grill out into an empty parking lot and held SWAT's first "Healthy Cooking Workshop." After a field trip to a local Farmers Market for organic produce and a grocery store tour, the group experienced firsthand the anatomy of a healthy meal, featuring one of Holland’s favorite healthy meals: grilled steak salad with fresh buffalo mozzarella, organic greens, and the fresh Wilcox tomatoes that they had purchased at the Farmers Market earlier that morning.
“That experience created a shift in the kitchen habits of my clients,” Holland recalls. “They got excited about it. They began to plan out their meals. They committed to eating fewer fast food meals and experimenting by making small changes... One Day at a Time.”
But with the success of his growing business, Holland couldn't conduct “interventions” for everyone, himself, so he set off to find a team of culinary professionals to help him bring the “No-Fear Cooking” message to the public.
After interviewing local Private Chefs, Professional Chef Dina Delaney joined the team, and the “Kitchen Intervention” tm program was officially born. Intervention Chef Delaney says, “As a Chef, I love being in the kitchen. But not everyone does. It is so rewarding to hear the ‘Intervention’ clients say, 'I had no idea this was actually so easy!" and it’s even better, she says, to hear them say, "This Cooking stuff is actually Fun!”
The “Kitchen Intervention” program is held several times per year, with private “Interventions” as an option for those who need additional support and guidance.
