4th Annual Indiana Walk for Wishes® to Feature Indy Wish Child
Indianapolis, IN, June 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana, Indiana Region is well on its way to reach the goal of raising $100,000 for the 4th Annual Walk for Wishes®. The Walk is Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m. at Fishers Town Hall One Municipal Drive in Fishers. Currently, 46 teams have signed up to participate and an additional 225 individuals will be joining the Walk.
This year’s walk highlights Honorary Wish Child, Tyrese, as well as the Region’s 2500th wish child, Baylie.
Tyrese is struggling with a difficult battle against Biliary Atresia, which impairs the drainage of bile from the liver. He has been admitted to the hospital 16 times for infections and weight loss related to Biliary Atresia and short gut syndrome. Tyrese’s wish to be an actor and be seen on TV was granted in January.
“We were happy when we were asked if Tyrese could be this year’s Honorary Wish Child for the Walk for Wishes here in the Town of Fishers,” said Teneshia, Tyrese’s mom. “Our whole experience with Make-A-Wish has been wonderful and we can’t wait to be part of the walk in June!” Tyrese will be on hand to speak about his Make-A-Wish experience with walk participants and volunteers.
Individuals can visit the web site at www.makeawishindiana.org to register for the 2.5 mile walk around the scenic Town of Fishers. Walkers may participate as an individual or pair up with co-workers, friends or family to form a team.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. at one of Indiana’s most picturesque venues in the Town of Fishers. The entire route is handicapped accessible. At the conclusion of the Walk stay for their Wish Reunion Celebration located in the Fishers Town Square.
The family-friendly event will feature games, food and entertainment for all ages. Wish Ambassadors representing Indianapolis, Evansville, Zanesville, Tippecanoe and Terre Haute will be on hand at the Walk. At the wish reunion you will also have the opportunity to meet current and past wish families. The Wish Reunion is open to all Walk participants, so join them as we come together to share the power of a wish®.
“Walk for Wishes gives Make-A-Wish supporters, volunteers, wish families and individuals the opportunity to raise funds for courageous kids in our community and to celebrate life,” commented Executive Director Juli Miller. “I am deeply grateful for the support of our host at Fishers Town Hall, and our major sponsors: Kroger, Charles Schwab, Frigo Cheeseheads, Motorola, Biddle Memorial Foundation, Fifth Third Bank and UAW-GM.”
There are currently more than 275 children from Indiana, just like Tyrese, waiting for wishes. Financial support generated from the Walk for Wishes will provide the funding needed to make their wishes come true and ignite the spirit of hope.
Participants who raise $100 or more will receive a Walk for Wishes T-shirt. For more information about this event, contact Bobbie O’Connor, development associate, at (317) 636-6060 or boconnor@makeawishindiana.org.
