Make-a-Wish Foundation Celebrates 2,500th Wish at Walk for Wishes
Indianapolis, IN, June 12, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Make-A-Wish Foundation® of Greater Ohio, Kentucky & Indiana, Indiana Region is well on its way to reach the goal of raising $100,000 for the 4th Annual Walk for Wishes®. The Walk is Saturday, June 20 at 11 a.m. at Fishers Town Hall One Municipal Drive in Fishers. Currently, 46 teams have signed up to participate and an additional 225 individuals will be joining the Walk.
This year’s walk features the Region’s 2,500th wish child, Baylie, whose wish was to swim with dolphins. In many ways nine-year-old Baylie is a typical girly-girl. However, she suffers from a rare brain disorder that has required numerous surgeries and hospital visits. In an effort to help find a cure for this life-threatening medical condition, Baylie has sold unique bracelets and t-shirts with various artworks that she designed. She has already raised a remarkable $144,000.
For a girl that gives so much, the Make-A-Wish Foundation® is honored to grant her heart-felt wish to swim with the dolphins. Walk participants and volunteers will have the opportunity to meet Baylie and her family at the event.
Individuals can visit the web site at www.makeawishindiana.org to register for the 2.5 mile walk around the scenic Town of Fishers. Walkers may participate as an individual or pair up with co-workers, friends or family to form a team.
Registration begins at 10 a.m. at one of Indiana’s most picturesque venues in the Town of Fishers. The entire route is handicapped accessible. At the conclusion of the Walk stay for their Wish Reunion Celebration located in the Fishers Town Square. The family-friendly event will feature games, food and entertainment for all ages. Several Wish Ambassadors from numerous areas around Indiana will be on hand at the Walk.
At the wish reunion you will also have the opportunity to meet current and past wish families, as well as Wish Ambassadors representing Indianapolis, Evansville, Zanesville, Tippecanoe and Terre Haute. The Wish Reunion is open to all Walk participants, so join them as we come together to share the power of a wish®.
“Walk for Wishes gives Make-A-Wish supporters, volunteers, wish families and individuals the opportunity to raise funds for courageous kids in our community and to celebrate life,” commented Executive Director Juli Miller. “I am deeply grateful for the support of our host at Fishers Town Hall, and our major sponsors: Kroger, Charles Schwab, Frigo Cheeseheads, Motorola, Biddle Memorial Foundation, Fifth Third Bank, and UAW-GM.”
There are currently more than 275 children from Indiana, just like Baylie and our special Wish Ambassadors, waiting for wishes. Financial support generated from the Walk for Wishes will provide the funding needed to make their wishes come true and ignite the spirit of hope.
Participants who raise $100 or more will receive a Walk for Wishes T-shirt. For more information about this event, contact Bobbie O’Connor, development associate, at (317) 636-6060 or boconnor@makeawishindiana.org.
