Boston, MA, July 06, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Fitness boot camps are sprouting up all over the country for one reason. They give “cadets” fast results with the incentive of taking the exercise bout out of the sterile, somber, indoor gym to the luring outdoors with a squadron of like minded individuals. An emphasis on total body onslaught is employed by constant movement of the large muscle groups, which are capable of burning many more calories then the small auxiliary movers usually targeted in a normal workout routine. 45 minutes is all that is needed to burn more than twice as many calories as a conventional weight lifting bout lasting well over an hour. The strength gained is also one of function, using the body and gravity as a form of resistance. Every aspect of fitness is bolstered including drastic increases in cardiovascular capacity, lean muscle tissue, improved mood, and self-esteem just to name a few. All of these positives are shared with a group that endure the challenge together and help each other succeed as a unit.

The majority of people looking to get into shape are not trying to become body builders or power athletes. They just want to feel more energized, look better, and have fun doing it. This fact basically makes having to buy an expensive gym membership obsolete.

All one needs is a pair of sneakers and their own body weight to get into great shape in much less time then one would think. Some boot camps employ the use of resistance from elastic bands and weight bars, but for a beginner, these items are nonessential.

Boot camp workouts usually consist of a 5-10 minute warm-up to prepare the muscles for further exercise by pumping more blood to the periphery. The warm-up is also crucial in preventing injury. Depending on the instructor, the boot camp usually then goes to a strength circuit in which movements are performed to fatigue the major muscles groups and provide stimulus for muscle growth and repair. These can include many variations of the body squat, lunges, push- ups, and dips. These exercises burn lots of calories due to the number of large muscles being innervated. It is the ability of the boot camp regiment to stimulate many muscles simultaneously that gives the work out such power to burn fat and form lean tissue in little time. After the strength series, a cardio vascular circuit is usually prescribed to rev up the metabolism and try and tax the heart and lungs to drastically improve their efficiency. The last 5 minutes consist of a cool-down period where the body is brought closer to it’s resting steady state to begin the recovery period.
