San Mateo, CA, August 28, 2009 --(PR.com)-- San Mateo-based Nandi Yoga (www.nandiyoga.com) continues to advocate for green business practices as it unveils six shiny, new bike racks on 8th Street. And, to drive its efforts forward, the studio has a Green Yoga Program for students who walk, bike or take public transportation (with a free class for every ten classes they attend).

The new bike racks were made possible through a partnership with between Nandi, Bike San Mateo, the City of San Mateo, and Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance. “Bike San Mateo County was extremely pleased to assist Nandi Yoga to get city approval and partial funding for their bicycle racks,” said Steve Vanderlip, Chairman.

By working together, the process of acquiring and installing the racks was expedited and the costs were lower than if Nandi had tried to do the job by itself: Bike San Mateo helped facilitate the approval of the project, the Alliance provided a significant portion of the funding, the City installed the racks at cost, and Nandi covered the remaining expenses and donated the racks to the City.

In April, Nandi was officially certified as a Green Business by the City of San Mateo and San Mateo County under the award-winning Green Business Program. The announcement established the studio, which was recently included in a green yoga feature article in Yoga Journal, as a leading advocate for green business within the United States’ yoga community.

The Peninsula Traffic Congestion Relief Alliance (commute.org) is dedicated to addressing the challenges involved in getting to and from work in San Mateo County by helping people find ways to get to work that are faster, cheaper, and/or easier through commuter information, employer programs, and city transportation demand management partnerships. The Alliance is funded by the City/County Association of Governments of San Mateo County, the San Mateo County Transportation Authority, the Bay Area Air Quality Management District and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission.

Bike San Mateo (www.bikesmc.org) is dedicated to facilitating and encouraging people to get out and ride; to work, to play, to relax and to experience the simply joy of riding one’s bicycle. Their vision is for San Mateo County to fully support bicycles as viable transportation in accordance with the Complete Streets Act, AB 1358.

At Nandi Yoga, people of all ages and abilities practice yoga in an earth-friendly environment, supported by nurturing, experienced teachers and fellow practitioners. The studio offers a wide range of daily classes in diverse styles for adults, children and families.
