New York, NY, November 01, 2009 --(PR.com)-- Something to Sing About! Benefit Concert

Five singers/songwriters are collaborating to help the most vulnerable of our society—abused women and their children.

On November 12th at the Bowery Poetry Club in NYC, Yvonne Moneira, Jen Parlin, Julie Hardy, Marisela Godbey, and Dana Parish will perform some of their most popular selections in support of the Voices of Women Organizing Project (VOW). The event is also co-hosted by producer/poet Shawn Randall, who will be the MC for the evening. The performers will also write and sing a song about a VOW member’s domestic violence survivor story. The show starts at 7:30 pm. All proceeds will go to benefit the campaigns of the Voices of Women Organizing Project.

The concert is named "Something to Sing About!" and seeks to raise awareness about domestic violence and the work of the Voices of Women Organizing Project. VOW helps survivors of domestic violence reclaim their power to organize for changes to the system that abused women and their children turn to for safety, justice and assistance.

"We are very happy to be the beneficiary of this outstanding event, and are glad to raise awareness through music about the needs of abused women and their children,” noted Raquel Singh, Executive Director of VOW. “The generous support of the performers will help VOW continue to implement its mission in the community.”

Tickets are available for purchase now at www.vowbwrc.org or by calling 212.696.1481 x101. Tickets are $50 in advance and $75 at the Bowery Poetry Club on the night of the event.

About the Voices of Women Organizing Project:
The Voices of Women Organizing Project (VOW) brings together survivors of domestic violence to improve the systems that abused women and their children turn to for safety and justice. VOW provides training, support and technical assistance so that survivors can reclaim their power, identify their needs and collectively craft public recommendations. VOW members organize to promote long-term systemic change by documenting institutional failures, testifying at hearings, creating position papers and meeting with local and state officials. VOW is dedicated to ensuring that the voices of survivors are heard, recognized for their expertise and included in the decision-making process.
