Free Educational Workshop for People Affected by Cancer
Ventura, CA, November 13, 2009 --(PR.com)-- The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura and the Cancer Resource Center at Community Memorial Hospital will host a free presentation for people affected by cancer entitled: Frankly Speaking About New Discoveries in Cancer with Todd Yates, D.O. and Marty Nason, RN, MN. Dr. Yates will present new discoveries in cancer treatment and side-effect management. Marty Nason, RN, MN will present new advances in cancer-related psychosocial issues. This free event takes place on Tuesday, December 8, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the CMHS Cancer Resource Center, 184 N. Brent St., Ventura, located across the street from Community Memorial Hospital. Workshop presenter Todd Yates, D.O. completed his residency and fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and specializes in general oncology and hematology. Formerly on staff at Eisenhower Medical Center, he now practices at Coastal Cancer Care in Oxnard with Dr. Stephen Rigberg of Islandview Hematology Oncology.
Marty Nason, RN, MN is co-founder and vice president of programs and services at The Wellness Community Valley/Ventura. She is a certified clinical nurse specialist in psychiatric and mental health, specializing in helping people live well with acute and chronic illness. Nason has a Master’s degree from the University of California, Los Angeles and over 20 years of experience working with people affected by cancer.
Founded in 1982, The Wellness Community is an international non-profit organization dedicated to providing free support, education and hope to people with cancer and their loved ones. In July 2009, The Wellness Community and Gilda’s Club joined forces to become the largest provider of cancer support worldwide. The combined organization is comprised of nearly 50 local affiliates, 12 affiliates in development and over 100 satellite locations. By offering professionally-led support groups, educational workshops, nutrition and exercise programs, and stress-reduction classes, The Wellness Community and Gilda’s Club continue to provide support, education and hope to all people affected by cancer.

The Cancer Resource Center at Community Memorial Hospital offers a variety of services designed to meet the needs of individuals faced with a diagnosis of cancer, as well as providing programs for family members, friends, and the community-at-large. These services are offered free of charge in a comfortable, non-hospital setting. Community Memorial Hospital is a non-profit, 240-bed, community-owned regional hospital and health center governed by an unpaid board of trustees. It is fully licensed by the State of California Department of Health Services and accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations. The Community Memorial Hospital Cancer Program is accredited with commendation by the American College of Surgeons.
