New Stick-e® Wrist Saver Helps Yoga Enthusiasts Overcome Pain
Stick-e® Brands, the industry innovator in yoga accessories, has just introduced the first patent pending Yoga Stick-e® Wrist Saver to address wrist pain associated with upper body weight bearing exercises such as pushups and Downward Dog in Yoga.
Chicago, IL, January 28, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Yoga has often been cited as the panacea by Yogis for overcoming all sorts of life's ailments including joint pain. However, for many Yogis whose wrists are more use to a computer keyboard then a sun salutation, wrist pain is often the first twist they encounter when starting a yoga regimen. Stick-e®Brands, the industry innovator in yoga accessories, has just introduced the first patent pending Yoga Stick-e® Wrist SaverTM to address wrist pain associated with upper body weight bearing exercises such as pushups and Downward Dog in Yoga.
According to a Yoga Journal Press Release, "One significant trend to emerge from the [2008 'Yoga in America' Market Study] study is the use of yoga as medical therapy. According to the study, 6.1 percent, or nearly 14 million Americans, say that a doctor or therapist has recommended yoga to them. In addition, nearly half (45 percent) of all adults agree that yoga would be a beneficial if they were undergoing treatment for a medical condition." Additionally, “Yoga as medicine represents the next great yoga wave,” says Kaitlin Quistgaard, editor in chief of Yoga Journal. “In the next few years, we will be seeing a lot more yoga in health care settings and more yoga recommended by the medical community as new research shows that yoga is a valuable therapeutic tool for many health conditions.”
However, Yogis are finding that their wrists often can't hold up to the weight bearing poses that are an integral part of yoga. The reason for this is during most daily activities people rarely have their wrists in the full extension position (when the back of the hand is 90 degrees from the arm as when performing a push up) much less supporting 100 or more pounds in this position. As a result, over time one loses full range of motion. Searching on line, one will find many complaining of wrist pain, such as these comments on LiveStrong.com directed to Jillian Michaels of 'The Biggest Loser' fame, "Wimpy girl wrists lol" posted by gallirask on February 4th 2009, "I tried level 2 last night.... and have come to the conclusion that I have wimpy girl wrists. Those planks are really hard! I sucked it up and completed the level but man i could hardly hold my glass of water at the end of it :)" and by TrustyT0225, "Good for you for pushing through. I only attempted a few of the exercises and ended up skipping most. My wrist hurt for several days afterwards. I don't know if I will even try again lol..sad..."
After experiencing this pain herself, and hearing the complaint from many Yogis at tradeshows, Libby Andrews, the inventor of Yoga Stick-e® Socks, decided to design a solution. With her orthopedic surgeon husband's input, she realized that minimizing the degree of wrist extension, spreading the weight load over a larger portion of the hand, and providing a thick foam support would minimize the discomfort. The January/February Pilates Style Magazine, dedicated a half page editorial to the ground breaking new product stating, "Working up a sweat is great, but not when it makes your hands slip and slide on the mat. YOGA STICK-E® WRIST SAVERTM to the rescue! The new workout tool provides a slip-proof grip while also supporting your wrists. Its internal cushioning elevates the heel of the hand, decreasing extension and alleviating pressure on your wrist joints—the result of which is a painless push-up or Plank position. And no need to don and doff for the rest of your session: The one size-fits-all supports are virtually weightless!"
Stick-e® Brands is also receiving rave reviews from its on line customers and Facebook Fans lauding the benefits of this new prop, "Yes Yes I Love Them!!! I had carpal tunnel surgery in my right wrist and the wrist savers help." and "These are great! I can finally do pushups and hold plank position without my wrists giving out!!" comments Caralyn Allen Brown and Linda Connolly respectively, both Yoga Stick-e® Socks Facebook Fans.
The patent pending Yoga Stick-e® Wrist SaverTM is an exciting innovation for Yoga enthusiasts utilizing an unimposing prop to make a healthy regimen more comfortable and effective. With an MSRP of $19.95, the Wrist SaverTM is currently available at Paragon Sports in Manhattan as well as on-line retailers such as YogaAccessories.com, EverythingYoga.com, Amazon.com, and Walmart.com.
