New Bedford, MA, February 13, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Fun is just one word to describe a new class at New Bedford's Howland Place Fitness: pole dancing fitness, taught by Celebrity trainer Jeff Costa. Empowering and energizing are a couple of others. Having recently returned to the SouthCoast after nearly a decade of training celebrities on the West Coast, Costa is ready to share his Tinsel- Town-tested techniques with local residents. "I can show people how to get a great workout and walk away feeling like they've just played for an hour and a half," Costa says. "You feel alive. You feel sexy. When you feel good, the rest will follow."

"I went to watch the class and was totally blown away. It was completely not what I expected," says Liz Olimpio, a 44-year-old mother of two from Dartmouth who plans to begin taking Jeff's class. "I'm a shy person and I definitely didn't think this would be my thing. But after seeing it, I was so impressed with how Jeff was able to teach the class to move with such self confidence. It was really amazing."

For a lot of women — and men — pole dancing offers a unique alternative to mundane workout routines.

"Everyone wants to feel sexy, whether they admit it or not," says Costa, who served as a personal trainer to the cast of HBO's "The Girls Next Door." He is widely known for his popular Cardio StripTease videos, which Time magazine referred to as "the artistic step-sister to stripping." "We have both men and women who take the class. People of all fitness and ability levels," Costa adds. "We start out real slow and people progress depending on their individual fitness levels." Studies show that 77 percent of all New Year's resolutions fail within the first six months. That statistic is sobering, considering that adopting a regular fitness routine tops the list of most people's personal goals. "You've got to make working out enjoyable for people or they're not going to stick to it," says Matt Bettencourt, owner of Howland Place Fitness.

"When people first hear it, they don't believe it," says celebrity fitness trainer and Dartmouth native Jeff Costa. "But it's an incredible workout. You work everything and dramatically build up your strength in the process." "Plus, it's a lot of fun." It's also a bit different from traditional exercise and has obvious appeal for people with a sense of adventure.
