Baxa Releases New 2 mL Exacta-Med® Dispenser for Oral Medication Delivery
New Exacta-Med Dispenser size provides another dosing option for oral liquid medications. Exacta-Med Oral Dispensers were the first syringes developed specifically for safe delivery of oral liquids. Baxa is the market leader for oral dispensing devices.
Denver, CO, October 31, 2006 --(PR.com)-- Baxa Corporation, a Denver-based manufacturer of medical devices and systems, announces the release of its new 2 mL Exacta-Med Oral Dispenser. For more than 30 years, Exacta-Med Dispensers have been the industry standard for safe administration of oral liquid medications. As the market leader, Baxa offers the most extensive line of oral liquid medication dispensers available – in sizes from 0.5 to 60 mL. The addition of a 2 mL dispenser provides customers the flexibility and convenience to meet the full range of their oral liquid dosing needs.
Exacta-Med Oral Dispensers play a vital role in preventing wrong-route administration of non-IV fluid drugs. Their unique dispenser tip cannot connect to a luer needle hub, needleless connector or patient IV access device. Designed to ensure dose accuracy while preventing med errors and wrong-route administration of IV drugs, oral dispensers and accessories are recommended by the Institute for Safe Medication Practice (ISMP) for use in oral and enteral fluid drug delivery.
“The addition of the 2 mL dispenser was made in response to customer requests,” notes Product Manager Katie Calabrese. “The more options we provide to our customers, the easier it is for them to provide the most accurate doses. Our wide product range encourages clinicians and caregivers to administer oral liquid medications in the safest, most reliable manner possible.”
Oral dispensers, introduced in 1975, were the first Baxa product and the Exacta-Med brand remains the market leader today. Baxa was the first company to recognize the need for a non-luer dispenser to prevent misconnection errors with IV lines. Its dispensers were the first device specially designed for oral liquid delivery only. Baxa also provides specialty dispensers for safe enteral, topical and vaginal medication delivery. Its complementary Kwik-Vial™ Containers and accessories provide accuracy and stability for liquid unit dose drug storage and delivery.

Oral dispensers (syringes) have long been recognized as the safest and most accurate method to administer oral liquid medications. These advantages are greatly magnified in pediatrics, geriatrics, and in hospital environments where potential confusion with intravenous and enteral lines and inhalation systems make dosing with standard hypodermic (injectable) syringes even more dangerous. They are especially valuable in clinical research where dosage accuracy has fundamental importance. Go here to link to the abstract: http://publicrelationsnewsroom.com/_wsn/page2.html.
