Food Network Star and Bestselling Author Chef Jeff Henderson to Share His Story of Passion and the Power of Change in Support of Orange County Women and Girls
Irvine, CA, April 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- On Tuesday, May 11, 2010, more than 650 guests are expected to attend the 7th annual Orange County United Way’s Women’s Philanthropy Fund Breakfast with keynote speaker Chef Jeff Henderson as he makes his first official return to Southern California. Chef Jeff will inspire and motivate guests to find a hidden passion and believe in the power of change at the Hyatt Regency Irvine from 7:30 – 9:30 a.m. The breakfast is supported by a number of corporate sponsors, led by Allergan Medical and KSK Breast Center of Irvine.
Chef Jeff Henderson’s remarkable story of finding his hidden passion for cooking while incarcerated was chronicled in his New York Times best-selling memoir COOKED. Henderson is also an award-winning chef and became the first African-American Chef de Cuisine at Caesars Palace, Las Vegas, and has become one of the most influential chefs in the country. Chef Jeff is also the host of the Food Network reality show “The Chef Jeff Project” and the author of a new cookbook, “Chef Jeff Cooks, In the Kitchen with America’s Inspirational New Culinary Star.”
Henderson will share his journey from convict to celebrity chef and his passion and commitment to improving the lives of youth at risk, leading them to self-sufficiency. Henderson will be accompanied by one of his former students, a young woman who became self-sufficient after being mentored by the award-winning chef and finding her passion for cooking. This example of mentorship and educating young women closely aligns with the Women’s Philanthropy Fund, which is committed to empowering the lives of women and girls in Orange County and advancing them on their path to self-sufficient living.
Last year’s breakfast drew more than 600 guests and raised more than $250,000 to support Orange County programs that help women and girls meet their basic needs and provide them with the resources to become self-sufficient.
Founded in 2002, Women’s Philanthropy Fund (WPF) has more than 110 members who each give $10,000 or more annually to Orange County United Way and supports their mission to build self-sufficient lives.
