“VIYM" - Yoga Mat for the Visually Impaired - from Adaptive Sports Company Rousettus LLC Stretches to Canada for National Event
Princeville, HI, April 30, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Rousettus, LLC, creator of the VIYMTM – Visually Impaired Yoga Mat (patent pending) – is partnering with the Canadian Institute for the Blind (CNIB) in The Great Canadian Yoga Stretch. The company, which focuses on designing adaptive sports and yoga equipment for the physically and visually challenged, will donate 50 of their one-of –a-kind VIYM™ and 50 instructional DVDs to be used during the 30-day challenge commencing on May 1, 2010.
According to the CNIB, every 12 minutes someone is diagnosed with eye disease. The Great Canadian Yoga Stretch is a fundraising campaign in support of health and wellness programs by the CNIB. Part of their aim is to encourage active lifestyles – including the practice of yoga – for people living with vision loss.
The three-dimensional VIYM™ (Visually Impaired Yoga Mat) allows users to feel where their hands, feet, and head should be placed for all 24 basic yoga postures. The intuitive tactile features of VIYM™ help the participant know their location and direction on the mat, thus accelerating both learning and the teaching of yoga.
Founder and CEO Tracy Curley, said “I am honored to join forces with the CNIB. I am proud that we have created a valuable tool to make yoga accessible to all regardless of vision, and I am excited to introduce the VIYM™ to our Canadian friends.”
Rousettus strives to enhance the wellbeing of those physically and visually challenged by providing adaptive sports products that enable everyone to fully and safely participate in mainstream, healthy activities such as yoga. Rousettus’ goal is to make these activities accessible to all, regardless of vision, infirmity or age, allowing everyone to ‘feel their center.’ For more information, visit www.rousettus.com and www.greatcandanianyogastretch.ca.
