Biggest Losers Ed and Heba to Serve as Celebrity Judges at Big Chef/Little Chef Fund Raiser
Charleston, SC, May 27, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Ed Brantley and Heba Salama, season six weight-loss winners from television's The Biggest Loser, will be serving up their culinary expertise as celebrity judges at Charleston’s second annual Big Chef/Little Chef fund raiser on June 17. The competition places an emphasis on creating healthy fare and will be hosted by the local nonprofit Louie’s Kids, an organization that promotes the awareness and treatment of childhood obesity.
"We are very excited to be working with Louie’s Kids and taking part in an event that teaches children about healthy living in a way that is engaging and educational," said Heba. "The issue of childhood obesity is a serious concern and a topic of great importance to me and Ed. We welcome the chance to help demonstrate that healthy food can also taste great."
The Big Chef/Little Chef event will take place at the Lowndes Grove Plantation from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. and will provide local professional chefs an outlet for showcasing their abilities while teaching attendees how to cook delicious and healthy dishes. These "big chefs" will be paired with "little chefs," all of whom are members of the Louie's Kids organization.
Ed and Heba were originally introduced to Louis, founder of Louie’s Kids, while participating in the Cooper River Bridge Run. His nonprofit organization piqued Heba’s interest with its treatment-focused solution, an attitude she found innovative and inspirational. Her curiosity drove her to visit the after-school Fit Club program, where she spoke with the children and learned about the various resources the organization provides.
"I believe that Louie’s Kids is going to change a lot of lives and reverse the destiny of some of the kids involved who may otherwise be sentenced to a life of being obese, or worse yet, a life cut short because of it. This is a serious problem, and we all have to be proactive, accountable and do everything we can to help fix it. It’s huge, literally," said Heba.
Ed, a Culinary Arts graduate of Johnson and Wales University and former Magnolia sous chef, and Heba will be serving as guest judges alongside Emmy Award-nominated television host, chef and author Marvin Woods. All three judges will vote on dishes in the categories of flavor, originality and nutritional content.
Louie's Kids was founded in 2001 to fund treatment solutions for childhood obesity, a problem that plagues 25 million children in the United States. The organization helps economically disadvantaged children find the treatment regimen that is right for them.
Tickets for the event are $45 in advance and $50 at the door. Tickets can be purchased online at www.louieskids.org.
