ADHD Seminar Series Returns to University of Wisconsin in Fall of 2010
Highly successful UW-Union Minicourse developed by comedian-turned-motivational-speaker Nick Mortensen.
Madison, WI, August 04, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The University of Wisconsin Union will extend its partnership with 2-time winner of "Madison's Funniest Comedian" contest Nick Mortensen in offering a second installment of Mastering Your ADHD - the weekly seminar series first developed in the Summer of 2010. The Fall installment begins September 21, 2010.
The focus of the series is in developing the effectiveness of individuals living with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
This 4- Session Course Will Examine:
What ADHD is and what ADHD isn't. Undiagnosed ADHD is and how it drives the behavior of famous people.
Medications frequently prescribed for ADHD & their effects/side effects.
Common lifestyle and thought patterns of the many living with ADHD.
The prejudice surrounding ADHD: How it discourages people from seeking diagnosis & how it can be overcome.
Depression & Anxiety: How they relate to ADHD.
How to harness basic ADHD tendencies to create personal success.
"The first run of the series was a runaway success. I had very measured expectations and it exceeded them all dramatically. There seems to be a great demand for information on Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and I feel very fortunate to be someone that owners of ADHD feel comfortable getting that information from. Educating myself on the topic of ADHD has empowered me to believe that I can achieve anything by simply using the gift of my ADHD. I'm happy to share that story with anyone willing to listen to it."
Mortensen stepped away from comedy in mid 2009 to seek out training in the art of motivational speaking and develop this program aimed directly at the ADHD audience. He is not a professionally trained therapist or ADHD coach. The success of the first seminar series seems to be proof that he is onto something.
"There are plenty of professionals working in the ADHD coaching industry that have inquired about how I was able to garner such an enthusiastic response. Some of it had to do with my marketing & positioning, I am certain. However, I believe that the response has been precisely because I am not an ADHD professional." Mortensen explains: "For many, seeking quote/unquote 'professional help' is tantamount to an admission that they may be crazy. There are a lot of limiting beliefs in our culture about mental illness and the stigma extends over to ADHD. For people under the weight of those sentiments, seeking out information from a comedian who has traveled some of the same roads they find themselves on is an easier course of action. Attending this seminar series is perhaps a furtive step toward more traditional therapy."
Mastering Your ADHD is a 4 session course aimed at helping people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder understand ADHD and tap into their unfulfilled potential. This initial offering is through the University of Wisconsin and open for registration to the general public. It meets on Thursdays from 6:00p.m. to 7:30 pm (Central Standard Time) from September 21 to October 12, 2010. Class number is 3330.201.
