ACAC Fitness & Wellness Center Receives National Award for Its Physician Referred Exercise Program
Charlottesville, VA, September 12, 2010 --(PR.com)-- ACAC Fitness & Wellness Center earned top honors within the health and fitness industry by winning a 2010 “Best of the Best” award for its physician referred exercise program, PREP. The annual competition, sponsored by Club Industry magazine, recognizes the best programs at fitness facilities across the United States. ACAC’s PREP program won for its innovation in the development of a medical fitness and wellness program and for its proven track record of results.
ACAC’s PREP program assists doctors in prescribing exercise for patients who could benefit from becoming more physically active. Any patient with a physician referral is eligible to enroll in PREP and begin a personalized exercise program based on the physician’s recommendations. ACAC’s team of medical fitness professionals, which includes nurses, physical therapists and exercise physiologists, provides supervision and support to help patients “fill” and comply with their exercise prescriptions.
“Many years ago we discovered that when doctors partner with our medical fitness experts to prescribe exercise, their patients can make incredible progress towards their health goals,” says Phil Wendel, ACAC owner.
To date, nearly 1,600 physicians in ACAC club communities, which include Charlottesville and Richmond, Virginia, as well as West Chester, Pennsylvania, collectively have referred more than 10,000 patients to the PREP program. Wendel believes that doctors are comfortable prescribing the PREP program because ACAC adheres strictly to standards and guidelines that are widely recognized in the medical community.
“All ACAC clubs are either certified or are working towards becoming certified by the Medical Fitness Association, an affiliate of the American Hospital Association,” says Wendel. ACAC is one of fourteen clubs nationwide to have achieved this certification.
ACAC representatives will attend an awards ceremony in Chicago on October 8. In addition, an article featuring ACAC and the PREP program will appear in the October issue of Club Industry magazine.
