Join WaterAid's 10,000 Steps a Day to Stay Fit and Healthy for Summer

Walk4Water is a national fundraising event coordinated by WaterAid. 1st – 31st October is officially Walk4Water month, which coincides with National Water Week in October. The concept is simple, register to walk 10,000 steps a day with your friends or workmates and raise funds to help end water poverty. Make a difference by getting fit, you'll also save the planet from carbon emissions - 67.5kg for every 10,000 steps. First 1000 people to register online will get a free pedometer.

Sydney, Australia, October 08, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Imagine life without water flowing freely from a tap. Imagine waking up at dawn and spending up to six hours fetching water for your family’s needs. 1 in 8 people worldwide do not have to imagine this life. It is their reality.

Now in its 3rd year, Walk4Water is a great initiative that not only helps millions of people who go without clean water but is also a great way for you to show your solidarity with poor women and children from Timor-Leste to Tanzania, from Burkina Faso to Bangladesh. Every step you take demonstrates that Australia supports communities from Africa to Asia.

All you need to do is sign on as a team or an individual participant and start walking 10,000 steps a day each day in October. Visit Walk4Water to find out how.

Jonathan Pease Australian fashion & style opinion leader is usually seen strutting his stuff down the catwalk. But this October Jonathan will be walking with a difference as he joins thousands across Australia for Walk4Water.

Jonathan says, “I'm a big fan of walking, on the catwalk and on the beach. Who would have thought that simply by walking we could help change the lives of so many people worldwide? Just brilliant! Through Walk4Water, we can all experience the 10,000 steps that 850 million women and children suffer every day just to fetch water.”

Now that winter is over, this is the best time to work on your own wellbeing by walking the daily steps recommended by health experts. You’ll also help look after our beautiful planet and reduce carbon emissions - over 2kg for every 10,000 steps.

Last year, over 1000 walkers banded together to raise over $80,000 – despite predicted financial pressures. And we’re sure we can raise the bar even higher this year by reaching $150,000.

So stride out, the first 1000 people to register online will receive a free pedometer. Not only will you feel good for helping a great cause, you’ll also get fit for summer!
