Crime Stoppers Annual Report Issued

The FY2010 Annual Report shows that Crime Stoppers of Minnesota is valuable to the fight against crime by helping Law Enforcement agencies. With tip level tripling “Our work to provide statewide access for the public to submit crime information anonymously, has been useful collecting facts they would not otherwise have access to in their work to solve crimes,” said Nick Luciano, Board Chair, who continued “Our report intends to share this good news with all in Minnesota.”

Bloomington, MN, October 17, 2010 --(PR.com)-- The FY 2010 Annual Report of Crime Stoppers of Minnesota is now posted on their website www.crimestoppersmn.org under the News & Events Tab.

Minnesota’s 30 year old crime fighting organization has in the past twelve months seen a tripling of anonymous tips the public has come forward with. Nicholas Luciano, Vice President of Hannon Security Services, Inc. who serves as Chairman of the Crime Stoppers Board of Directors states that “We want to share with the citizens of Minnesota how helpful their providing of information about crime is to solving crime. With local government agencies facing tight financial times that often impact Sheriffs and Police, our ability to provide this service in the fight against crime has a new level of importance.”

In the completed fiscal year 103 agencies around the state received tips from Crime Stoppers. “The fact that half of these agencies are outside the metro area proves that we are increasing awareness with the public to report crime information wherever in the State they might be,” Luciano stated. “Since crime knows no boundaries with suspects often moving to locations different then where they committed crimes, our statewide presence and communications tools are proving helpful to Law Enforcement.”

Crime Stoppers of Minnesota is also expanding its Youth Against Crime (YAC) program which lets the most victimized population, ages 12-20, have a means to fight back against bullies, weapons, drug dealers, gangs and many other bad behaviors in schools. By customizing the text messaging infrastructure of Crime Stoppers for inviting anonymous tips by students in selected Senior High Schools, useful information can be passed on to authorities before full negative consequences occur.

Executive Director Robert Dennistoun states that “We have proven to be a valuable tool to Law Enforcement and communities. We can now demonstrate our success record to help build the level of awareness across Minnesota and to attract new donors and funders.”

Dennistoun says “We know that 99% of non profit organizations focus on other worthy causes that do not address solving of crimes, closing of cold cases, and capturing fugitives; but we will reach out to the civic minded and concerned segment of interested donors. With cuts in agency levels already being discussed for next year and the fact that hiring of sworn officers across the state has been flatB for the past three years, the usefulness of Crime Stoppers’ to Law Enforcement is more important than ever as well as cost efficient.”

About Crime Stoppers of Minnesota
Crime Stoppers of Minnesota is a non profit organization started in 1979 that helps to fight crime across the State by providing the public with means to come forward, report information about a crime, remain anonymous in the process and have that information be delivered by Crime Stoppers to the local Law Enforcement agencies that can investigate the information.
