Donna Marie Thompson, PhD CEO of Goals in Action, LLC Revealed 5 Tips to Bouncing Back from Loss Taken from Her New Book to Dave Malarkey of WISR-AM in Pittsburgh
Washington, DC, December 05, 2010 --(PR.com)-- Donna Marie Thompson was the special guest Dave Malarkey of WISR-AM in Pittsburgh where she shared her story of four major losses that are explored in her new book: Bouncing Back From Loss: How to Learn From Your Past, Build the Present, and Transform Your Future. Thompson lost her mother, her man, her money, and her health – all within a matter of months. Yet she bounced back.'
Thompson likened her losses to a fierce storm. “Imagine a tree after a tornado has blown through. Yes, it is still standing, but there is very little left. After my four losses I was completely and utterly devastated - yet somehow I managed to bounce back. Now it is my life's mission – my passion – to help others to bounce back from loss too.”
Malarkey asked about experiencing loss as the holidays approach. Thompson responded that “the holidays add an extra layer to your loss. It seems that everyone around you is happy, yet sadly you are not. It is very isolating. So it is important to prepare in advance for parties and family gatherings – even to the point of having a script. Then when you do encounter awkward questions or negative energy you are ready.” Thompson went on to share some of the best things and some of the worst things to say to someone who has experienced a loss because many of us don't know what will help or what will do more harm.
When asked how she managed to pull herself together after experiencing four major losses, Thompson indicated that “after researching hundreds of books, articles, and seminars, I managed to pull together a series of 5 steps that uniquely built upon each other to get me through it. Using these innovative steps, I bounced back, and now I share in the book what I call the '5Es to Recovery Program' so that others can bounce back too. I am truly blessed - I found the way. And it is my goal if you are suffering now, that you can find the way too.”
Thompson noted that “the single most important element in recovering from loss – and in living life – is resilience. Your future is coming up fast – how would you like to feel as each new day approaches?”
