‘Inward Bound’ Forges a Brand New Path to Integrative Wellness with Cleanse-Focused Retreats
Costa Rican-headquartered boutique wellness-lifestyle company centers on integration of yoga, food and awareness in mobile sanctuaries around the world.
Nosara, Costa Rica, January 14, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Established 17 years ago, Inward Bound pioneered the yoga retreat vacation by taking guests on fabulous, luxury getaways to Jamaica, Italy, Burma, Costa Rica and the mountains of West Virginia. Today, under the new ownership of Director Joy Burch along with Co-Director Quen Koetter, Inward Bound is taking a new approach to wellness by transforming the yoga vacation into an intentional, life-altering retreat, offering detoxifying cleanses, specialty retreats and comprehensive yoga immersions and trainings in nature-inspired locations throughout the world. Different from the current “detox to retox” vanity vacation trend, Inward Bound retreats focus on empowerment and every day integration of healthful, authentic living through detoxification, holistic foods and nutrition education, yoga and mind/body awareness.
A staggering recent statistic by the U.S. Surgeon General revealed that of the 2.2 million deaths in the U.S. each year, 1.8 million (more than 80%) are diet-related. In a time when high-stress, fast-food and a general ‘don’t stop’ attitude reign, the fast lane seems to be the only lane in existence, leaving people little time for contemplation, relaxation and simply caring for one’s own body and what they put in it.
Burch and Koetter realized a void in the current retreat marketplace for addressing these issues and an opportunity for Inward Bound to introduce education and techniques for integrating healthy food choices beyond the 7-day retreat phase.
“After running exotic retreats for several years, I realized that I wanted to offer more than just a holiday week,” says Burch. “I wanted Inward Bound to also create a space and provide the tools to guests for subtle, yet radical transformation.”
Having worked on the business side of wellness for many years and under the tutelage of spiritual gurus Deepak Chopra and Tony Robbins in Southern California, Burch decided to further her competency in business and pursued an MBA at Thunderbird in Arizona. After moving to the concrete jungle of New York City and working in corporate with a global beauty brand, Burch decided to make her own personal exploration in the world of wellness a bit more permanent by moving to the real jungles of Nosara, Costa Rica, a laid-back village miles from paved roads and touristy Tamarindo. There, Burch began her 500-hour teacher training at the renowned Nosara Yoga Institute where she began to understand the incredible importance of leading a conscious and balanced life. After her mother was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, Burch began to research the staggering positive effects healing raw/living and “slow cooked” foods have on the body. Her passion for combining raw foods with yoga for optimum health is reflected in the new and exciting mission of Inward Bound.
Having traveled similar paths of self-discovery but on separate continents, both Burch and Koetter presently strive together to unveil the inspiration and thoughtful balance that they themselves live and teach as part of Inward Bound’s mission.
Inward Bound’s core elements of “Yoga, Food and Awareness” are echoed in each one of their three main retreat categories: Cleanses, Yoga Immersions and Trainings and Boutique and Specialty Retreats. A few upcoming Inward Bound retreats planned for 2011 include:
