Uniquely Yours Personal Training Organizes 1st Annual Burlington Pushups for Charity and Raises Over $2,500 for Wounded Warrior Project
The 1st annual Burlington Pushups For Charity kicked off with a morning of pushups at the First Church of the Nazarene, pitting the Burlington Police department against the Regular Joe’s & Jane’s.
Burlington, IA, April 27, 2011 --(PR.com)-- Thank You Burlington Police Officers and Burlington Joe’s & Jane’s for All of Your Support
With 13 Participants, Pushups For Charity Burlington raised over $2,500 for Wounded Warrior Project.
Hosted by Liz Modrell of Uniquely Yours Personal Training, the 1st annual Burlington Pushups For Charity kicked off with a morning of pushups at the First Church of the Nazarene, pitting the Burlington Police department against the Regular Joe’s & Jane’s. Every dollar raised was for the severely injured servicemen and women of the United States. Donations and pledges of more than $2,500 were raised by the simple act of doing pushups… lots of them.
The actual premise was very simple... how many pushups can an individual do in 90 seconds? Each participant asked for pledges of 50 cents to a $1.00 for each pushup completed. The range of pushups completed was 36 to 97. The top performers were Lisa Wilsey, of the Regular Joe's & Jane's, with 70 for the women and Tyler Carroll, of the Burlington Police Department, completing 97 for the men.
The winning team for most pushups went to the Burlington Police Department, while the winning team for the most money raised went to the Regular Joe’s & Jane’s. The participants received prizes donated by local businesses: Sports Worx, Styltique Salon, Kenny’s Roller Ranch, Pzazz and TriOak Foods. Physical Therapy Works provided a warm-up to the participants before starting the event.
“Overall it was a tossup. Every one was a winner. It was all for a very worthwhile cause, providing services to severely injured soldiers and helping them on the road to healing, and both teams did their part to make it a great success,” says Modrell.
Donations to the Wounded Warrior Project are still being accepted at the Burlington Pushups For Charity website: www.PushupsForCharityBurlingtonIowa2011.com or by mailing a check payable to Wounded Warrior Project to: Uniquely Yours Personal Training, 15856 165th St., Sperry, IA 52650. Individuals can make a donation on behalf of any of the Regular Joe’s & Jane’s or to the Burlington Police Department.
