Dr. Karen Sherman Was Guest on Straight Talk (WCEM 1240)
Dr. Karen Sherman and host, Cleveland Rippons discussed why people have a difficult time making changes in their lives and what the impact is to not do so.
Plainview, NY, October 14, 2011 --(PR.com)-- On October 11, Dr. Karen Sherman was a guest on "Straight Talk" (WCEM 1240) and spoke with host, Cleveland Rippons about why people stay stuck in old patterns.
Sherman explained that, "Change is hard for most people because it's not comfortable to do something different, to do the unknown. This is true even if what you're doing isn't getting you the results you want." Sherman offered several examples of individuals who live in stuck life patterns which she refers to as "living life on 'auto-pilot.'" Behaviors ranged from acting as a caretaker even though it is to one's own detriment to being involved in such addictive behaviors as alcohol and drugs.
Dr. Sherman, however, offered inspiration in saying that these old "wired-in" patterns can be changed especially with the use of tools of visualization and free association writing. She also made the point that such tools offer an individual the ability to clear old memories in a different way than traditional talk therapy.
