Sopranos Star Jamie Lynn Sigler Speaks at The Ridgefield Playhouse
She stars in the HBO hit The Sopranos, but actress Jamie Lynn Sigler is also an advocate for helping teens cope with the eating disorder Anorexia Nervosa. As a survivor of the disease, she speaks in various areas, mostly at high schools and colleges, to tell her story of survival. On May 17th at 7:30 pm Sigler will be speaking at The Ridgefield Playhouse in Ridgefield, Connecticut as part of their Dove Series for Women and Girls and the Danbury Hospital Living Well Series.
Ridgefield, CT, May 02, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Jaimie-Lynn Sigler (whom we all know as Meadow Soprano, Carmela and Tony’s daughter, on that hit HBO series), agrees wholeheartedly with the message from the National Eating disorders Association, “Be comfortable in your genes.” She has been there—believe it or not, she wasn’t happy with her genes—after a battle with an eating disorder, she formed The Jamie-Lynn Sigler Foundation at The Giving Back Fund to promote the development of healthy body images in young women and men and to educate the public about the prevention and serious consequences of eating disorders.
Jamie-Lynn Sigler is coming to The Ridgefield Playhouse for Movies and the Performing Arts, as part of the Danbury Hospital Living Well Series and the campaignforrealbeauty.com Dove Series for Women and Girls, at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 17.
The facts surrounding eating disorders are as astounding as they are terrifying.
• Two out of ten girls have disordered eating.
• The average cost of inpatient care for eating disorder treatment is $25,000 -$30,000 per month.
• Anorexia has the highest mortality rate of any mental illness.
Jamie-Lynn Sigler is a spokesperson for the National Eating Disorders Association and she wants to see that the public understands this disorder, to see that those affected have access to quality treatment and to see that their families get the necessary support. To this end she wrote the book, “Wise Girl” and she makes herself available for forums such as at The Playhouse.
