Stick-e's New Yoga Block Addresses Wrist Pain Resulting in the Perfect PlankTM
Chicago, IL, January 09, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Stick-e® Products LLC recently started shipping one of its newest, patent pending, problem solving fitness accessories, the Wrist Saver® Block. Orthopedic surgeon approved and recommended, the Stick-e® Wrist Saver® Block is a 2-in-1 product combining the traditional foam yoga block with a wrist saving push up device to enable the Perfect PlankTM. For strength and superior comfort, it has an internal handle that provides optimal wrist positioning during upper body weight bearing exercises. The blocks can also be stacked enabling a greater range of motion during pushups and triceps dips.
Stick-e® is known for its best selling, patent pending, Knee and Wrist Saver® devise. Building upon this successful product, Stick-e® has integrated the wrist saving concept into a staple in most yoga classes, the foam Yoga Block. This generic prop would seemingly have no room for improvement, but Stick-e® has added additional functionality by incorporating a wrist saving handle in the middle. According to Libby Andrews, inventor and President of Stick-e® Products, LLC, "The Wrist Saver® Block advances the concept of the original Wrist Saver® by putting the wrist in the ideal position for comfort and support. I particularly liked the idea of being able to create a 2-in-1 product so the block can still be used traditionally for stability during Asanas but for those who need it, the handle is also available. For anyone who wants to 'up; the muscle development quotient, the blocks can also be stacked to be used in more traditional fitness activities beyond yoga."
A common complaint yoga and Pilates instructors often hear is regarding wrist discomfort and the challenges this presents in holding upper body weight bearing poses. In the weight room you often see people dealing with this situation by holding dumbbells during pushups to put their wrists in optimal positioning. During yoga, one might also see people rolling their towels under the heel of their hand to provide additional support. However, the weight of a dumbbell or the time to roll a towel is not conducive to the fluid movement of asanas performed during yoga.
As host of Colorado’s Best in Denver and creator of Fitness Friday’s for the show, Joana Canals reviews a lot of fitness products, "I do a lot of mat work with my clients so I had a couple of clients with weak wrists try out the product. One client in particular was never able to get into plank position or do push-ups because of the pressure on her wrists. When we gave her the Wrist Saver® Blocks it opened up a whole new world in her workouts. Not only did it alleviate the pain in her wrists but she was able to progress to a whole new level in core training with this tool. I don’t know of any other product on the market that does quite what this does."
Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Scott Andrews of Bone and Joint Specialists, supports the design of the Wrist Saver® Block for people experiencing wrist discomfort, "My practice deals with many patients experiencing joint pain. As a result, they often shy away from upper body weight bearing exercises. However, exercise is vital to the health and maintenance of one's joints and bone mass. I believe the Wrist Saver® block is ideally designed for this situation and will help many people continue their fitness regimen." Dr. Andrews, fellowship trained in joint replacement from John Hopkins, consulted with his wife Libby in the final design of this product.
The Wrist Saver® Block demonstration videos can be viewed on line at http://www.stick-e.com/wrist_saver_block.html. Stick-e® Wrist Saver® Blocks can be found at Amazon.com, YogaDirect.com, Paragon Sports, and many other on line retailers. They will also be part of a Stick-e® Yoga and Pilates Essentials kit to be featured on QVC January 12th.
Yoga’s participation rate skyrocketed in 2010, growing 28.1% to 20.2 million participants. Yoga is considered to be the second fastest growing leisure activity next to jogging and running according to the National Sporting Goods Association. Stick-e® Products’ line of fitness accessories are designed to address the challenges associated with performing Yoga and provide a more rewarding fitness experience.
