Campbell, CA, April 05, 2012 --(PR.com)-- Building Peaceful Families (BPF) – a Silicon Valley non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health, safety, and well being of children – today announced that its free community fitness program, the Red Power Divas, will begin its sixth training season on Saturday, May 5. Led by former San Jose State head basketball coach, Sharon Chatman, this inspirational team will meet to kickoff its 2012 season at Campbell Park (Campbell, CA) at 7:30 a.m.
Founded in 2007, the Red Power Divas is a walking/running support group comprised of women (Divas), men (Divos), and kids ages 5 to 17 (FitKidz). Focused on encouragement, teamwork, and education, membership in the group has exploded over the past five seasons – from just 60 members in 2007 to more than 1,100 today. Based in Silicon Valley, the Red Power Divas train each year from May through October, competing in several team race events throughout the season with the ultimate goal of finishing the San Jose Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon in October.
“Being a part of our team – whether you’re walking one mile or running a full marathon – is absolutely free. There are no fees to join and no fund raising required, so it is truly accessible to all members of our community,” said Sharon Chatman, founder and chairman of Building Peaceful Families and the Red Power Divas. “I encourage parents, teachers, mentors, and other adult role models to join the Red Power Divas in setting a positive, healthy example for the children in our lives.”
Members of the community are invited to attend the orientation session on Saturday, May 5, at 7:30 a.m. to learn more about the Red Power Divas and the FitKidz program. For more information or to download and submit your application, please visit www.redpowerdivas.org.
