Gimbal’s Fine Candies Salutes Food Allergy Awareness Week
May 13-19: The Week to Educate About the Increasingly Common Disorder
San Francisco, CA, May 18, 2012 --(PR.com)-- One in every 13 children in the U.S. now suffers from food allergies, nearly doubling the data found in 2008 and putting a total of 6 million children diagnosed with the disorder, according to the Food Allergy Initiative.
Started in 1998 by the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN), Food Allergy Awareness Week aims to educate others about the important and sometimes fatal reactions people have regarding food allergies. Many people and organizations around the nation are honoring Food Allergy Awareness Week, May 13-May 19, 2012, by holding events and fundraisers, hosting online forums and giving away allergen-free goodies.
Gimbal’s Fine Candies is proud to be one of the only major confectioners in the United States free of the “Major Eight” food allergens that are responsible for 90% of food allergies. Those “Major Eight” foods are peanuts, tree nuts, milk, fish, shellfish, soy, gluten, and eggs.
“Being that it is Food Allergy Awareness Week, we want to take this opportunity to spread awareness about the extra safety measures we take to make delicious confections for those with food allergies,” said Karin Vollrath, sales and marketing director for Gimbal’s Fine Candies. “We do not allow any of the ‘Major Eight’ ingredients in our production or packaging facilities, eliminating any risk for cross contamination.”
Recently, Gimbal’s began supporting organizations that champion the cause for food allergy awareness by donating samples of their products for various events. They have provided candies at numerous FAAN Walks, in the new member kits for the Kids with Food Allergy Foundation and through grassroots regional food allergy support groups across the country.
In addition to being allergen-free, the candies do not contain high fructose corn syrup, are certified kosher pareve by the Orthodox Union and are all made with pride in the USA.
Gimbal’s Fine Candies offers numerous candies with unbeaten quality and value, including Cherry Lovers® Candies, Honey Lovers® Candies, Sour Lovers® Candies, Gourmet Jelly Beans, Sour Gourmet Jelly Beans, All Natural Licorice Scotties® and chewy cinnamon LavaBalls®.
All Gimbal’s products are available at several national retailers, including Walmart, Rite Aid, Dollar General, and online at http//www.shop.gimbalscandy.com
