A Daughter’s Suggestion Changes the Direction of Her Father’s Life
Scottsdale, AZ, July 20, 2012 --(PR.com)-- At 50 years old, Nick Montoya, a Latino man who grew up in a small town in the White Mountains of Arizona, was working a successful 27-year career as a senior manager at Intel Corporation when he found himself divorced from an unhealthy marriage and solely responsible for three daughters. He tried to hold tight to his Hispanic/Latino perception of machismo; that he was strong and could handle anything, but, the truth was, he was under a great deal of stress that created serious health issues. Nick suffered from migraines along with chronic back and leg pain. One morning he woke up and found the pain so debilitating, he couldn't get out of bed.
Doctors at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento ran a series of tests and described him as a walking ‘time-bomb’; in addition to be overweight by 50 pounds he also had high blood pressure (160/98) and a total high cholesterol level of 230. After his first steroid epidural, his eldest daughter suggested that he take a Yoga class. He had no idea how much that suggestion would change his life. He sweated more in that first class than he had in his whole life. With lifestyle changes that included nutrition, yoga, meditation and life simplification; he began to heal his body, mind and soul. Within months he lost 45 pounds and got into the best shape of his life and got off all medications. He signed up for a yoga teacher training program and became a certified yoga teacher. He became a role model and inspiration for other middle-aged folks that needed to improve their health.
Nick left his career at Intel to raise his daughters and pursue his new passion. He is now happier and healthier than he has ever been and is serious about his life's new mission: to help others get healthy so they can live a quality life. There are now three generations of Montoya’s practicing and benefiting from Yoga; Nick’s three daughters and his mother and father who are in their 80’s are all doing Yoga.
Thanks to his daughters suggestion, through yoga, Montoya continues to get stronger, more flexible, more balanced; he has more energy than ever and even looks younger. Nick has developed transformational programs and workshops that incorporate yoga; he is an executive coach, author, business consultant and a motivational speaker.
His latest accomplishment was partnering with VAYU Productions where they created “Ageless Yoga” a simple step-by-step 8 week Yoga program. This 4 DVD 8-week program breaks it down so any beginner can safely do it and by completing it - will have developed healthy lifestyle changes that greatly improves their quality of life. “Ageless has become a term associated with me,” says Montoya “It is not only the name of my Beginner Yoga Program, it also reflects my physical and mental outlook on life. As I am getting older in age, I am actually getting stronger, more flexible, more balanced, more focused, and have more energy.” Nick explains, “It’s not just another exercise video. It’s a one-of-a-kind, down to earth Beginner Yoga Program that works.” Nick also teaches a minimum of eight classes per week at the Scottsdale-based Blissful Yoga Studios and leads yoga retreats around the country. He is a sought after yoga teacher, guest teaching at studios around the US. He attributes Yoga for saving his life and hopes that his story will inspire other Dads to experience the gift of good health.
