IBSA Launches Initiative to Create Youth Development Center

To meet the unmet challenges facing youth from disadvantaged neighborhoods, low-income adults and ex-offenders with employment & training services, and small businesses needing ongoing support and proper advocacy, IBSA, Inc. has began raising the required funds to secure the building they have occupied for over 15 years. The corporate headquarters is located at 629 SE Quincy, and the adjacent buildings on 7th Street between Quincy and Kansas Avenue. 112-114, 116, and 118 SE 7th will be acquired.

Topeka, KS, July 05, 2007 --(PR.com)-- For over 15 years IBSA, Inc., a nonprofit organization located in Topeka, Kansas has taken great care to place its energy and efforts to helping those at the lower end of the socioeconomic scale obtain employment, start businesses or plan for their careers. Not only has the agency helped thousands meet their most basic socioeconomic needs, it has done such while also meeting its own organizational demands on a shoestring budget.

One of the recurring suggestion from youth and young adults from the local neighborhoods was the desire to have a central place to safely socialize and interact with their friends and peers after school and on weekends. A place that is not so much government or church, but one whereas they are a part of establishing the rules and governing processes as they feel as fair. Having a cross-section of city youth involved allows those who only see each other at a game or at the mall an opportunity to work together when coordinating activities for, and with, their peers. Having a collaboration of agencies that serve our primary market working together in a central location will also provide an opportunity to refer them to the right person, the first time around.

This is the organizations most challenging effort to-date and they are looking to complete their goal of raising the amount needed to complete the acquisition and rehab efforts of the project in a timely fashion. With several levels of support to choose from, they believe raising required funds by selling 'engraved bricks' will offer many that have supported the organization for its accomplishments, an equal chance to give in their own small way.

The agency has established a Fund with the Topeka Community Foundation in Topeka Kansas to receive the funds and process the tax-deductions available to donors. IBSA is selling engraved bricks that start at $250 to $10,000 for Founder Contributors. These bricks paid for through donations will be placed around the facilities after their acquired and after outdoor facade rehabilitation is completed. Rehab work will be done as part of the organizations occupational skills training program. W. Lazone Grays, President for IBSA, Inc. said that "to bring the buildings to a certain level of standards will require minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting/drywall skills. This will be a great opportunity to expose young adults to the building trades, and to give their fathers a place to come and learn abount meaningful work" said Grays.
