E.A. Young Academy’s Carol Raymond Named 2012 Area Teacher of the Gifted
Carol Raymond, M.Ed., has been named as the 2012 Area Teacher of the Gifted award recipient for the Piney Woods/Prairie Area by the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT). The five Area Teacher of the Gifted award winners will be recognized during an Awards Ceremony at the TAGT Annual Conference in Dallas at 5:30 PM, Thursday, November 29, 2012.

Carol Raymond, M.Ed., has been named as the 2012 Area Teacher of the Gifted award recipient for the Piney Woods/Prairie Area by the Texas Association for the Gifted and Talented (TAGT).
The Area Teacher of the Gifted Award is presented to one individual in each of the five TAGT Geographic areas who exhibits a strong commitment to gifted education. The TAGT Piney Woods/Prairie Area consists of 46 Texas counties, including Tarrant, Dallas, Denton, Parker, Johnson and Rockwall counties, and covers the entire northeastern region of the state. The Area Award Winners are chosen for their efforts to: Demonstrate an ongoing commitment to professional growth; Develop a personal education philosophy that matches the characteristics of gifted students; Impact gifted education at the local, regional, and state level; Develop and implement differentiated curriculum for gifted students; And serve the needs of gifted students in both the cognitive and affective domains.
The five Area Teacher of the Gifted award winners will be recognized during an Awards Ceremony at the TAGT Annual Conference in Dallas at 5:30 PM, Thursday, November 29, 2012.
Mrs. Raymond currently serves as the Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) faculty at E.A. Young Academy in North Richland Hills, Texas. Her degrees in music performance, elementary music education and gifted education provide a unique blend of expertise in the development of E.A. Young’s curricular and fine arts elements.
Prior to joining E.A. Young Academy, Mrs. Raymond served as a gifted and talented specialist, classroom teacher, elementary music specialist, and private music instructor in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for more than twenty years. Her passion area is implementing methods to meet the social and emotional needs of her students through challenging and appropriate academic pursuits.
Mrs. Raymond serves on the American Mensa Gifted Youth Committee and as the publications chairperson for the Research Division of TAGT. She is a SENG Model Parent Group (SMPG) Facilitator and published a nationwide research study regarding the effectiveness of the SMPG model. She has authored numerous differentiated math and science units and created the social/emotional curriculum for Hardin Simmons University’s summer gifted program, Threshold. Mrs. Raymond is a frequent presenter at TAGT conferences in the areas of parent education, social/emotional needs of the gifted, and curriculum differentiation. She is a past recipient of the Mensa Education Foundation Scholarship and the National Association for Gifted Children’s A. Henry Passow Teacher Scholarship.
