“A Toast to Precious Souls” Raises $18,000 to Benefit Women and Children’s Services at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center
Outstanding Nurses Honored and Parent Fundraisers Recognized
Laguna Hills, CA, February 05, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Saddleback Memorial Foundation and Saddleback Memorial’s Baby Alumni Club (BAC) hosted its 7th annual “A Toast to Precious Souls” wine tasting event and auction Saturday, January 26. The event raised $18,000 which will benefit women and children’s services provided through The Women’s Hospital at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center, including the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) that cares for the tiniest patients born at the hospital.
Two Saddleback Memorial nurses were recognized for their service and commitment to the hospital and their patients. Susan Rulloda, a NICU nurse from Aliso Viejo and Christine McCoy, a labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum (LDRP) nurse from San Clemente, were each presented with the 2013 Nurse-of-the-Year Award.
Ron Naglie, M.D., medical director of the NICU at Saddleback Memorial, and Michael Haydon, M.D., medical director of The Women’s Hospital at Saddleback Memorial gave special thanks to two NICU alumni families for their contributions. Kate and Michael Douglas of Aliso Viejo whose quadruplets were born in the NICU a little over a year ago and Rhiannon and David Bravo of Brea, parents of quintuplets who were also born late in 2011, presented a $15,000 check to Saddleback Memorial Foundation from their memorial golf tournament held in November. Proceeds will benefit Saddleback Memorial’s NICU.
In his speech, Dr. Naglie thanked attendees for their support which makes it possible for the hospital to add such life-saving innovations as the Giraffe® Omnibed, which creates a healing environment for intensively ill infants. He notes, “The Douglas’ and Bravos’ are the reason we do what we do. Your charitable donations help families like theirs.”
Sponsors who supported the event included CBR Systems, Inc., Don and Becki Partington, Epic Systems, Sea View Pediatric Medical Associates, South Orange County Pediatrics Associates, Pediatrix and Obstetrix Medical Groups. Event donors included Total Wine & More, Laguna Hills and StressBusters Wellness Day Spa.
“It truly takes a village – from the nurses and physicians who care for our patients, to the sponsors, volunteers and donors who give their time and dollars to the hospital,” says Saddleback Memorial Foundation president Cecilia Belew. “We are grateful for everyone’s support in helping Saddleback Memorial improve the health and well-being of our community.”
