Is Your Fad Detox Making You Sick?

South Boulder-based Yoga Loft Joins Holistica Integrative Care to Teach Students to Safely Eliminate Toxins from Their Environment. No Fasting Required.

Boulder, CO, March 13, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Has it been more than 24 hours since a friend, neighbor or colleague uttered that oh so common phrase, “I am trying this new detox-program…?” Dr. Mary Shackelton noticed this trend at her practice Holistica Integrative Care.

“I was seeing more and more people who were actually becoming toxic from so-called detox programs. Many of the popular fads eliminate proteins and healthy fats, rendering the liver, a primary vehicle for eliminating toxins from the body, unable to function,” shared Dr. Skackelton. “The reality is that we cannot completely avoid toxins in our modern world. We can take a more holistic approach, however, that considers the variety of ways the body processes and eliminates waste over time, not just in radical and short 7- or 14-day increments.”

As a solution, Dr. Shackelton partnered with Yoga Loft to offer an introductory three-part series called Day-to-Day Detox. The final introductory session on Sunday, March 17 from 1:30 to 3:30pm at Yoga Loft will briefly recap key lessons from the first two sessions, including the importance of detoxification and elimination pathways, before examining some of the many toxic exposures in our daily lives.

Participants will learn which ingredients are safe in your shampoo and toothpaste; where toxins lurk in our homes, offices, bathrooms and garages; how to minimizing exposure to chemicals and lower your toxic load; and how detoxification is a journey and not just a 21-day cleanse.

Part presentation and part detox-yoga flow, this active workshop is designed to prepare participants for a month-long interactive program in April, which will include weekly yoga classes, health education, and a detoxification eating plan and grocery shopping list to help participants take control of their own health. “Yoga has long been known a natural pathway to detoxify the organs and the blood stream,” according to Nikki Rogers, Yoga Loft partner and instructor. “This partnership allows us to offer students the knowledge of how to safely eliminate toxins through their practice and educated lifestyle changes.”

The final introductory session on Sunday, March 17 is $15 for Yoga Loft members and $20 for non-members. The month-long program in April is $297 for members and $347 for non-members. Program fee includes one month of unlimited month of yoga classes. The workshop is hosted at Yoga Loft in the Table Mesa Shopping Center in South Boulder. Yoga Loft welcomes new students an introductory special offer that includes 10 days of unlimited yoga classes for $10.
