Superior Grocers Partners with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services to Promote Healthy Living and Launch CalFresh Awareness Month
Lynwood, CA, April 22, 2013 --(PR.com)-- Superior Grocers, one of the largest independent supermarket chains in Southern California, is partnering with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Social Services to promote healthy living and connect the community with CalFresh and nutrition education resources and programs by sponsoring the CalFresh Awareness Month Kick Off Event. On April 29, 2013, many partners will come together to help spread the word about healthy eating, nutrition guidelines and access to resources that help bring nutritious food to many families. This special event will include free health screenings, healthy food demonstrations, and product and prize giveaways to attendees.
Partners participating in this health awareness initiative include LA County, Department of Public Social Services; LA County, Department of Public Health, Network for a Healthy California; AltaMed; St. Francis Medical Center; Daughters of Charity; Women, Infants and Children (WIC); and many local entities and healthy food vendors.

This kick-off event will start the CalFresh Awareness month activities that begin on May 1st. The campaign aims to increase awareness and participation in the CalFresh Program through community partnerships and will emphasize the importance of good nutrition and health by providing the public with tips and demonstrations for healthy cooking and ideas for incorporating physical activities throughout the day.
As a further commitment to the local community, Superior Grocers will also present a $25,000 grant to Alliance College-Ready Public Schools and recognize their achievements in education excellence in local Southern California neighborhoods.
Other events are planned throughout the month of May at various Superior Grocers’ locations.
The CalFresh Awareness Kick-Off event will be held on Monday, April 29, 2013 from 9:00am -2:00pm with a special presentation at 10:00am at Superior Grocers in Lynwood at 3831 E. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd, Lynwood, CA 90262.
