City of Columbus Declares May 12 "National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day"
Long-term sufferer and Ohio State University doctor team up to increase recognition about the chronic disease.
Columbus, OH, May 10, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The campaign to expand public consciousness of fibromyalgia got a little bit easier in central Ohio. During Monday afternoon's Columbus City Council meeting, Health and Human Services Committee chair Priscilla R. Tyson sponsored a resolution to declare May 12 as "National Fibromyalgia Awareness Day" in the city of Columbus. The initiative, spearheaded by "Exceptions To The Rules" radio host E. Michelle Lee and Dr. Kevin Hackshaw, Associate Professor, Rheumatology & Immunology at The Ohio State University, was presented and passed after hearing testimonials from both parties.
Fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that causes widespread pain and tenderness in the muscles, joints, and tissues of the body. Of the over 5 million people diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the United States, 80 percent of those affected are women. While treatment ranges from oral medication to surgery, there is no known cure for the syndrome.
Lee's fight against fibromyalgia is fueled by her personal experience with the disease. Having dealt with painful symptoms after being diagnosed with the chronic disorder over two decades ago, she decided to use her show as a platform to emphasize the necessity to find a cure. This Thursday's "Exceptions" show is dedicated to fibromyalgia awareness and will feature Janet Favero Chambers, President of the National Fibromyalgia & Chronic Pain Association.
"Exceptions To The Rules" is an online radio show designed to motivate, educate, and help listeners obtain the necessary tools to reach success as economical entrepreneurs and business owners. Listen live each week as host E. Michelle Lee and expert guests discuss topics such as getting the resources you need, health care options for small business owners, and much more. Listeners are also able to access the show, free of charge, through Talktainmentradio.com.
