The Jerry and Dolores Turco Resort Medical Rehab Center Promotes August as National Immunization Month
Lincoln Park, NJ, August 18, 2013 --(PR.com)-- With summer drawing to a close, the Jerry and Dolores Turco Resort Medical Rehab Center wishes to spread the word about August being National Immunization Month and the extreme importance of getting vaccinated.
While the elderly population could benefit greatly from vaccinations against diseases like influenza, pneumonia and shingles, countless members of the community go without proper vaccinations every year. These vaccinations are made widely available through local pharmacies and community events and are mostly covered by Medicare.
For the flu, authorities recommend annual vaccinations for everyone six months and over. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that of the 36,000 Americans who die annually from infection from the seasonal flu virus, 90 percent are age 65 and older. In addition, most of the estimated 225,000 people hospitalized because of the seasonal flu are over the age of 65.

The Center for Disease Control recommends all adults over 65 receive a one-time pneumococcal vaccine annually and that every 10 years all adults get a Td booster shot. In addition, it is crucial that shots are received on the correct schedule.
