Lincoln Park, NJ, August 18, 2013 --(PR.com)-- The month of August is National Immunization Month and Lincoln Park Renaissance Rehab and Nursing Center would like to spread the word around the community.

Unfortunately in America today many citizens are still not receiving the proper immunizations. Naturally the senior citizen population is the most at risk from diseases like pneumonia, shingles and influenza, and Lincoln Park Renaissance is doing all it can to raise awareness in that community. Vaccinations are available by going to a local pharmacy and are usually covered by Medicare.

The United States government recommends that everyone six months and older receive an annual flu immunization. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) estimates that 90 percent of the 36,000 Americans who die every year from infection from the seasonal flu virus are 65 and up. Additionally, most of the estimated 225,000 people hospitalized because of the seasonal flu are above the age of 65.

The Center for Disease Control recommends all seniors get a pneumococcal vaccine once a year and that every 10 years all adults get a Td booster shot. It is crucial however that all vaccinations are provided on the necessary timetable.

“Educating our senior citizen population on relevant health issues is a top priority of ours here at Lincoln Park Renaissance Rehab and Nursing Center. It’s so simple for everyone nowadays to be properly vaccinated, and there is really no reason for anyone not to be”, noted Tim Braen, Administrator at Lincoln Park Renaissance.
