Vetta Sports Announces the 3rd Annual Great America SCORES Soccer Dribble
America SCORES St. Louis invites soccer enthusiasts of all ages and abilities to participate in the 3rd Annual Great America SCORES Soccer Dribble.
St. Louis, MO, September 05, 2013 --(PR.com)-- On September 28 the America SCORES St. Louis will join other soccer enthusiasts from all over the country in attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the most soccer balls dribbled at once. Along with St. Louis, four other cities will be participating –Seattle, Portland, Los Angeles, and Dallas. Participants will be dribbling simultaneously for ten minutes. The America SCORES sets to unite 2,200 dribblers across the United States. Last year, the Great America SCORES Soccer Dribble united 2,149 soccer participants from several major U.S. cities.
The event is more than a world record, the America SCORES aims to bring soccer into under-resourced schools. Soccer communities across the nation are joining forces to raise money for America SCORES, an afterschool program established in 1994 that serves nearly 8,000 youth in over 150 urban elementary and middle schools and that has already benefited more than 50,000 children. The program uses soccer, poetry, and service learning as a means to encourage creative and intellectual development of America’s urban youth. The program sets to improve students’ health, academic skills, and civic engagement.
America SCORES has been serving the community of St. Louis since 2005. In St. Louis alone, the non-profit program has helped more than 2,000 children engage in soccer, poetry, and creative writing. The program has proven to be successful. During the 2011-12 school year, America SCORES youth participants scored 22% higher in mathematics and 12% higher in than their non-America Scores counterparts. In addition, 65% of youth participants who started the program overweight reached a healthy weight within one year of the program. The success of America SCORES is due to their innovative approach—the concept of team work and team players from the sport of soccer being transferred over to the classrooms and communities.
