WikiTrend.org and The Avant-Guide Institute: Non-Traditional Work Scenarios Are Trending
The trends-spotting collective is seeing increasing number of alternative-work arrangements.
New York, NY, October 17, 2013 --(PR.com)-- WikiTrend.org, the collective of more than 8,000 worldwide trends-spotters, is seeing a shift in the way work gets done. Traditional workplace norms like the cubicle, a shift that starts at nine and ends at five, and working up from the bottom are being questioned.
“A tight job market is leaving many qualified, capable young people out of well-paying and secure positions,” says the website’s editor, Daniel Levine. “In response, new workers are getting creative to make a living, and that’s causing a major shift in the way work gets done.”
Recent changes in technology are partly to thank for the shift. The rise of internet-based cloud storage allows work to be done out of the office. Instead, the workplace has become the couch, the coffee shop, the park, or wherever else a worker chooses to go. The ability to work anywhere has even spawned the trend of working vacations, and a rising number of people are taking their daily requirements on the road.
Technology is also generating more opportunities for those seeking to improve their career status. Studies show women have more opportunities in tech-related fields that are based online, while recent college graduates have better opportunities in startups and as self-employed entrepreneurs thanks to better technology.
With the changes to the traditional work model, it’s obvious the 40 hour work week is also on the downtrend. Studies show employees and entrepreneurs are increasingly taking their work home and spending more time on the job to get ahead.
“This trend is equally driven by technology and economy,” says Levine. “Thousands of workers are realizing opportunities are limited, so they are using available innovations to reinvent their careers and their lives.”
