A Practical Path to Authenticity,” teacher, author and founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing, Christina Pratt talks to guest Dr. Joe Tafur about the cultures of the Upper Peruvian Amazon, their healing plant medicine and Nihue Rao, a healing center based in the Amazonian Rainforest.

A Practical Path to Authenticity,” shaman and founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing Christina Pratt talks to Dr. Joe Tafur, who tells listeners that among the indigenous cultures of the Upper Peruvian Amazon, the Shipibo are one of the few cultural groups which has managed to maintain their language, their art and their ancient plant medicine. Tafur, a physician in the United States, assists in management and treatment at Nihue Rao, a traditional healing center in the Amazonian Rainforest, established in 2011 in Iquitos, Peru.

In this episode of “Why Shamanism Now?” titled “Healing in the Amazon: Nihue Rao,” Pratt welcomes Tafur who shares about the work at Nihue Rao, the medicinal power of traditional Shipibo healing with master plants, and the ayahuasca healing ceremony. Christina Pratt is a contemporary shaman specializing in mending the soul and transforming the parts of life that feel impossible. Pratt is the founder of the Last Mask Center for Shamanic Healing, creator of the original Foundations of Shamanism and Shamanic Healing course at the University of Minnesota, and a frequent and honored speaker for the American Holistic Medical Association.

Joe Tafur, MD, is a Colombian-American integrative family physician. Tafur works part-time as a physician in the United States and otherwise assists in management and treatment at Nihue Rao, a traditional healing center in the Amazionian Rainforest in Iquitos, Peru. Nihue Rao, established in 2011, offers traditional healing and training with master plants and traditional ayahuasca ceremony. Further programs in integrative healing, medical education, and visionary art are being developed at Nihue Rao. Tafur is also currently apprenticing under Maestro Ricardo Amaringo, assisting in ayahuasca ceremony and in all other aspects of treatment. He has extensive experience in Integrative Medicine and has been inspired to initiate the Office of Ancestral Medicine at Nihue Rao. Tafur completed medical school at the University of California, San Diego. He has participated in research projects with the Scripps Center for Integrative Medicine in San Diego and has also guest lectured at their program among many other projects in the development of effective integrative medicine. He has now begun lecturing on his work at Nihue Rao as an integrative physician.
