Trialing Veganism for World Vegan Day

Once a nearly foreign word, veganism is hitting the mainstream, and it is hitting hard. While many turn to veganism in the name of animal rights, more and more people are making the transition for their health or for the environment.

Las Vegas, NV, October 31, 2007 --(PR.com)-- November 1st is World Vegan Day. This holiday (sans vacation time) has been celebrated since 1994, but it represents the beginning of the world’s first Vegan Society, established 50 years prior in 1944. Since the advent of World Vegan Day, the number of people eager to celebrate this way of life has been grown exponentially.

Once a nearly foreign word, veganism is hitting the mainstream, and it is hitting hard. While many turn to veganism in the name of animal rights, more and more people are making the transition for their health or for the environment.

While it may not be a feasible way of life for many, World Vegan Day offers an excuse to learn more about veganism and even give it a try. Alisa Fleming at the informational website http://www.godairyfree.org has declared a vegan week on both the website, her personal blog, http://www.onefrugalfoodie.com, and in her household. Fleming noted, “We are already dairy-free, so the trial for us is a bit different than it is for vegetarians. But, my husband noticed how much better he feels when I do cook a vegan meal, so we thought it would be interesting to test out a whole week.” Fleming is sharing her family’s daily meals, successes and failures, at her blog throughout the week.

For many, the biggest hurdle to experimenting with a new diet is identifying what to eat. Luckily, the web is rich with resources, and many talented vegan bloggers have menus to share:

Bittersweet Blog – http://bittersweetblog.wordpress.com - Hannah Kaminsky loves baking. She shares recipes and photos of luscious desserts that are amazingly vegan.

Fat Free Vegan – http://blog.fatfreevegan.com - Susan delights with low fat and fat free recipes that focus on natural ingredients and delicious taste.

Vegan Yum Yum – http://www.veganyumyum.com - Lauren Ulm shares a range of original vegan recipes, from her own collection and that she has tried of others.
