Lance Armstrong Visits Paragon Sports
New York, NY, November 02, 2007 --(PR.com)-- Lance Armstrong made his marathon debut in New York City last year and surprised many people by breaking 3 hours. After crossing the finish line saying that the marathon was “without a doubt the hardest physical thing I’ve ever done,” the world was surprised this year when he said he was planning on running it again.
Before lining up at the start of the 2007 New York City Marathon, Armstrong made a stop at Paragon Sports, the legendary Sporting Goods store in Union Square, New York City to talk about his training leading up to the marathon as well as his Livestrong campaign that is a collaboration with Nike.
This year thousands of bright yellow Nike shirts with “Livestrong” emblazoned on the front were given out and will be worn by runners dubbed “Lance’s Army.” The Livestrong collection by Nike will directly benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation with 100% of the proceeds going back to the Foundation. This is the first time that a company has donated all of the proceeds of a product back to a cause.
When asked about training for this year’s marathon, Armstrong admitted to the fans at Paragon Sports that he did not train properly last year due to severe shin splints and did not “respect the distance” of the marathon. This year he is healthy and so has been able to log the necessary mileage to compete without the agony that he experienced last year. While he did not offer a goal time, he hinted that he would like to be close to 3 hours again but would not be disappointed if he was a little slower.
Armstrong said he plans to watch the Olympic Trials Marathon on Saturday with his children and then get the rest he now knows he needs for Sunday.
