Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Community College District Join as 2014 Breath of Life™ Award Honorees
Breathe California of Los Angeles County (BREATHE LA) is pleased to announce that two new honorees, including Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), will be recognized at the 2014 Breath of Life™ Awards Gala on Thursday, November 20, 2014 beginning at 6pm at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
Los Angeles, CA, November 08, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Breathe California of Los Angeles County (BREATHE LA) is pleased to announce that two new honorees will be recognized at the 2014 Breath of Life™ Awards Gala on Thursday, November 20, 2014 beginning at 6pm at the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
The two new honorees include Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD). Mayor Garcetti and LACCD join Psomas (psomas.com) and CH2M Hill (ch2m.com) on the Honoree panel for their dedication to nation-leading “green” solutions focused on community health and wellness, alternative energy sources, environmental and construction design initiatives.
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti will be recognized with the Civic Leader Award for his fresh and innovative approach to creating clean air and water, decreasing dependence on fossil fuels, increasing energy efficiency, tackling climate change and building sustainable, desirable parks for local residents to enjoy. Mayor Garcetti’s passion for building a healthier, greener Los Angeles has him recognized far and wide for his role as the city’s “Green” Mayor.
This year’s Community Impact Award goes to Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) for their Sustainable Building Program, one of the nation’s largest green construction efforts. LACCD students are well prepared for green-collar careers and many graduate with LEED™ (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standard certifications.
Mayor Garcetti and LACCD join the Breath of Life™ Awards Honoree panel with strong, collaborative ties. With a focus on talent and workforce retention, Mayor Garcetti has long supported collaboration with higher education institutions to retain graduates in Los Angeles to develop new jobs and opportunities in science, technology, engineering, arts and math.
"Los Angeles schools attract a dynamic talent pool. As Mayor, it's my job to keep those college and university graduates here to start companies, create jobs and serve as role models for their peers,'' Garcetti said.
