Homeowner Builds Second Home with King’s Court Builders - Up the Street from Previous Home at Waterford in Highland Woods
Originally from Ann Arbor Michigan, Bill Hemmings and his wife Monica spent nearly a year with a real estate agent searching for a home. Concerned with conducting business long distance, they initially hesitated to build. Later they decided to build a home with another builder when they found King’s Court Builders and the Waterford neighborhood at Highland Woods of Elgin.
Elgin, IL, November 13, 2014 --(PR.com)-- Originally from Ann Arbor Michigan, Bill Hemmings and his wife Monica spent nearly a year with a real estate agent searching for a home. Concerned with conducting business long distance, they initially hesitated to build. Later they decided to build a home with another builder when they found King’s Court Builders and the Waterford neighborhood at Highland Woods of Elgin. The couple spoke to Waterford residents, who gave King’s Court Builders rave reviews, putting them at ease to begin building their first home in April 2013, while living in Michigan.
“We loved our first home and Waterford but had our eye on another homesite up the street,” said Bill Hemmings. “It has the best typography and views in the entire subdivision.”
“While we have had repeat home buyers and even repeat buyers in the same subdivision we have never had one quite so soon; so this was unique,” said Pete Stefani, president of King’s Court Builders (Naperville). “Now that they were literally up the street, this time Bill and Monica were able to participate fully in the home building process.”
Now retired with Monica still working full time, Bill took the lead and the couple started building their second new home in Waterford at Highland Woods in September, 2013. Bill, Monica and his mother-in-law, Mary moved in a year later.
In this home they upgraded to a completely custom 2,900 square foot ranch home with four bedrooms, four baths, a finished basement, three-car garage and many other special touches.
The Hemmings wanted their home to reflect an open layout similar to Bill’s Father’s home in the St. Louis area. When he mentioned this to Pete Stefani; Pete paid him a visit to see the vision first-hand, taking a detour while visiting his son in college nearby.
“Pete spent time talking with my Father, took notes and measurements before heading back to begin work on our home,” added Hemmings. “The end result is just what we wanted: our dining room, living room and kitchen are an open Great Room concept spanning 23 x 22 feet with a corner post wall separating the living and dining areas.”
The homesite overlooks a wetland conservancy and pond off the backyard where it is not uncommon to see deer grazing and hear the coyotes at night. “This is one of the most serene subdivisions considering Randall Road is nearby,” added Hemmings. “And it is the only homesite in the subdivision that would accommodate the footprint of our new home.”
“Ares, our double yellow headed Amazon parrot, enjoys the views just as much as we do; he even talks to the geese outside,” said Hemmings.
The Hemmings’ built a screened-in porch off of the back corner of the home with a three-foot knee wall and an exit leading to a deck that is wired for sound. There are also two eight-foot door walls framing the dinette area of the kitchen; one leading onto the screen porch, the other onto the deck to maximize the views. The kitchen features custom Brakur cabinets; upgraded granite countertops and dark-stained small leaf acacia walnut flooring.
A suite was added for Mary. For extra privacy additional sound deadening measures were taken with added sheet rock and solid doors. Mary can turn up the TV volume in her room as much as she wants and Bill, an audiophile, can watch action movies at any volume without disturbing others in the household.
The master bedroom has a large sliding glass door overlooking the wetland area with the public footbridge over the pond and island, as well as a 100-year-old oak tree.
Other customization elements included an oversize 6’ x 5’ walk-in shower and ceiling heaters in the baths. Also, the couple opted for dual gas and wood burning fireplaces in the Great Room and in the basement.
Bill and Monica also appreciated the fact that King’s Court Builders builds its homes with optimal energy efficient construction techniques.
“Sensitivity to energy efficiency was another deciding factor in deciding to build with King’s Court Builders as was their standard two year warranty,” added Hemmings.
“Pete took the time to meet with us to create an accessible design for both homes,” said Hemmings, a paraplegic. “We received great client service, and I don’t think we were treated any differently than any other customer; not only from Pete but from our sales consultant Aimee, and the rest of his staff. That’s how he runs his business. We built the perfect house on a perfect lot – it should be in a magazine,” concluded Hemmings.”
