D.C. Native and Star Vocalist, Johnny Gill Salutes Decorated Veteran with Tribute
On Saturday, November 15th, award-winning vocalist and D.C. native, Johnny Gill, paid tribute to decorated veteran military physician, Dr. Clayton Lawrence, in a soulful performance.
Washington, DC, November 18, 2014 --(PR.com)-- This past week, the nation paused to recognize the profound sacrifices of its military members and their families, as Veterans Day and other commemorative events were held across the United States. In Washington D.C., award-winning vocalist and D.C. native, Johnny Gill, returned home to pay homage to the nation’s veterans in an exclusive performance held for decorated veteran, Dr. Clayton G. Lawrence.
While many celebrities have had long-standing traditions of performing for troops and veterans, Gill was moved at the opportunity to perform for a veteran who had made such a tremendous impact in the community in which he was born. He saw this performance as a unique opportunity to use his gifts to salute and say thank you to the military members and other area leaders, including Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, who have played a pivotal role in affecting positive change in his hometown.
DC Council Member Yvette Alexander who represents the 7th Ward in which Johnny Gill grew up noted, “This event was the culmination of so many powerful and positive things that represent the best parts of Washington D.C. To have the incredibly talented Johnny Gill take time out to honor veterans like Dr. Lawrence and leaders like Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton brings to light the strength, valor, and gratitude of our D.C. community. It demonstrates how indebted and thankful our citizens are for those that are serving to make this state, this nation, and this world a better place daily.”
Dr. Lawrence was truly humbled to be recognized for his years of service in such a memorable fashion. CEO and President of Lawrence Executive Alliance of Professionals (LEAP), LLC, Chairman of LEAP Foundation DC, and a decorated veteran military physician, Lawrence is well-known in the D.C. community for the extraordinary service of both his medical staffing company and nonprofit foundation. After serving in the United States Army for seven years, his time in the Army as a flight surgeon and his passion for emergency medicine led him to develop his own medical staffing company, LEAP, LLC, which would set a new standard of excellence for serving military and civilian patients globally.
After LEAP’s inception in 2007, its nonprofit partner organization, LEAP Foundation DC, was developed in 2009. With a mission of seeking to provide educational and training opportunities to meet the aspirations of the underserved citizens of the District of Columbia, LEAP Foundation DC became involved in countless initiatives to serve and give back in the community. Both of these companies have since been recognized on multiple occasions for the significant impact that each has made in the health, medical, and educational fields throughout the United States and abroad.
The evening proved to be a night to remember for Dr. Lawrence and his honored guests as the occasion also commemorated his 45th birthday. Lawrence stated, “I am truly humbled to have been honored in such an incredible fashion. I sincerely hope that each and every veteran realizes just how much their service and sacrifice is appreciated. I would like to give a very heartfelt thank you to Mr. Johnny Gill for recognizing the sacrifice of our veterans and showing support for those, past and present, that continue making this nation great. He is a true supporter and champion of the D.C. community and our military, and we are so fortunate to have such a talented and humble individual be so committed to supporting such powerful and meaningful causes.”
On December 9th, Johnny Gill’s newest album, Game Changer, will be in stores. The release of this album comes on the heels of the great success that he has had with the release of the single, “Behind Closed Doors,” which is currently #1 at WHUR in D.C.
