February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) Awareness Month
Birmingham, MI, February 02, 2015 --(PR.com)-- MacuHealth, LLC is partnering with the Center for Visual Rehabilitation & Research at Henry Ford Health System and Optometry Giving Sight in an effort to promote Age-related Macular Degeneration Awareness Month this year. During February, MacuHealth will be helping to raise awareness of the sight stealing condition via professional communications as well as in clinic materials for MacuHealth providers. The efforts also extend to social media platforms. MacuHealth has committed to donating $1 for every Tweet or Facebook post hashtagged with either #AMDAwareness or #TrustTheScience to one of their two charitable partners.

Age-related Macular Degeneration (AMD) is the most common cause of vision loss in those over the age of 55. The retinal disease causes a gradual loss of central vision. It can be diagnosed as either wet or dry and patients may first notice a blurring and distortion of their sharp, central vision. Risk factors for AMD can include age, family history, gender, race and poor diet.

While there is no available cure for AMD, according to research improved nutrition is instrumental in maintaining healthy eyesight. MacuHealth is a triple carotenoid eye supplement that has been researched by expert scientists and endorsed by leading eye care professionals worldwide. It is the only supplement that contains each of the three nutrients critical for macular health - Lutein, Meso-Zeaxanthin and Zeaxanthin. Additionally, MacuHealth has been shown to improve macular pigment and contrast sensitivity in subjects in just six months.

“I recommend MacuHealth to patients who are at risk of developing AMD or those suffering from the disease. The ultimate goal of supplementation is to mitigate the risk of developing AMD and the sooner the proper risk analysis is undertaken, the better the outcome,” said Toronto-based optometrist and MacuHealth provider, Dr. Kerry Salsberg. “Patients who complain about driving difficulties or glare are also often great candidates for MacuHealth,” added Salsberg.

“We are delighted to be a partner with MacuHealth in raising awareness about AMD," said Clive Miller, CEO of Optometry Giving Sight. "In many countries there are no trained optometrists to help diagnose AMD and make referrals where appropriate. Funds generated from this campaign will help us to ensure that more people in underserved communities have access to the eye health information that they need.”
