Join the Lupus Alliance of LIQ for Their 2nd Annual 5K Run for Lupus
Join the Lupus Alliance of LIQ on May 9th, 2015 for the 2nd Annual 5K Run for Lupus! 3.1 miles, USATF sanctioned, professionally timed by Just Finish, Inc. with the RFID Race Timing Systems.
Bellmore, NY, February 25, 2015 --(PR.com)-- Last year the Lupus Alliance of LIQ held their first 5K Run for Lupus at Central Islip High School. Over 200 people attended raising awareness about lupus and over $22,000. After the race, runners and spectators stayed and enjoyed the 5th Annual Central Islip Health and Wellness Fair which included Zumba, Free Swim, Yoga, Free health screenings and more.
This year on May 9th, 2015, the Lupus Alliance will once again Run for Lupus at Central Islip High School, located at 85 Wheeler Road in Central Islip. The run begins at 8am, awards and raffle prizes will be given out after the race along with snacks and beverages and the 6th Annual Central Islip Health and Wellness Fair will follow.
You can register to run at www.lupusliqueens.org/5runforlupus2. Registration is $20pp before 4/20/2015, $25pp between 4/21/2015 and 5/6/2015, race day registration is $30. The first 500 runners will receive a T-Shirt. Awards will be given out for top overall male and female as well as top 3 male and female in the following age group categories: 14 and under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74 and 75 and over.
The 3.1 mile, USATF Sanctioned race will be professionally timed by Just Finish, Inc with the RFID Race Timing Systems with disposable chip timing and walkers are welcome.
The Lupus Alliance of LIQ was established in 1955, is a 501c3 non-profit based on Long Island and is the only locally based agency that offers services to those living with lupus and their families in the Nassau, Suffolk and Queens areas. Unlike larger non-profits, the Alliance, does not receive large government or corporate grants, instead they have always relied heavily on the donations of individuals whose lives are touched by Lupus. All runners on Long Island are welcome to join in the fun and Run for someone with lupus.
Lupus can be a devastating disease, affecting the whole family, especially when insurance may not cover the cost of the medications needed to keep it under control. Every dollar raised at the Run goes directly to helping someone who has lupus in the Long Island/Queens area, as well as helping support research into the cause and cure of lupus.
